I am a hunter and fisherman, A few years back while deer hunting in ohio we took a deer into a check station and has a group of people verbally atack us. Saying things like what did that deer ever do to you and calling us names and such.. My view is that we hunt because we love the animal. Hunting isent just about killing (yea its nice to eat a big tender loin or some deer sasuage) but its about the experance. Not only that but hunters save the animals they love from inbreeding, diseses, over population and deth of the species.. why cant tree huggers see that?

Not quite sure but personally as much as I adore animals, I realize the importance of hunting, not only to thin the population to prevent starvation but also for food to feed your family for a winter.

It is also a common problem when deer overpopulate to have them run into the roads and cause MAJOR accidents.

Some people may see it as cruel but I see it as natural to use our earthly resources to survive upon. It is the food chain and the circle of life

I agree with everyone so far. i think they aren't really that open minded.

Next time, ask them what they think is better, a deer being chased by a wild predator. first they would be full of panic as they are chased and the first blow wouldn't be fatal it would be only wounding to slow the pray down. Next the predator would grab hold of the the animal anyway it can to bring it down usually this involves teeth or claws in the hind. It would then immobilise it and after all that it would either start to try to move it or start eating into before other predators turn up, most of the time the prey still isn't dead....

OR a responsible hunter that only shoots their target animals and admires all other in their natural habitat (one of my main loves of being out hunting) and uses the meat and by products for a good cause - walks into the bush, see's his target and with a nice, well thought out shot, kills the animal before it even knows what hit it.

the typical response to that from a tree hugger would be - oh but in the case of the predator - it is a natural process. In this case remind them that the reason we have cutting teeth and K9 teeth as well as forward facing eyes to judge distances is cause we as humans are designed to eat meet just like all other predators.

I am a hunter like you and love my deer hunting. I also think animal cruelty is bad as far as dogs or whatever. But hunting is a way of life, I do it for the love of it and the awesome food. The way i see it God put those lovely animals here for me to shoot and eat.

Yeah in general these kind of people are morons. I posted before to a similar question, and will post my answer again gladly:

"These people in general are socially isolated/retarded and want to be a part of the group and feel loved, regardless of the message of the group. They are also generally hypocrites, and have leather in their shoes, cars, or furniture."

When these people give me trouble, and they usually do cause I live around Madison, wisconsin, which is full of these people; I got a good method for dealing with these people. My usual reply (when asked the same questions you got) is "I did it because I could," this usually ends the conversation. Those who carry on get the finger.

They believe that what they are doing is protecting nature but are actually hurting it. In reality They are angry, Hateful people that have found away to have an argument with law abiding folks & have convinced themselves that they are the nice guys in the world when in fact they are not. Most hunters do not belive in something that other folks are doing but we are not the aggresive people of the world, so we just let thier ways slide.................The Antis are the Aggressive Haters of the World.............

They are misguided. I myself think it's wrong to abuse animals, but to me this relates to factory farms where animals spend their whole lives in horrible conditions. When I shoot a deer, at least it lived like a free, wild animal until it's death.

Those are the very same idiots that go to the market and pay $10.00, $12.00, and even $18.00 a pound for Beef. It is justified to them because they didn't shoot it, but it just shows their ignorance. Keep hunting and enjoy!!!!

The answer is simple, they are closed minded and do not appreciate your way of life, but at the same time we and they should respect and be tolerant of each others personal pursuits in life......
