I don't believe it is. If hope were a religious sentiment only, then that means all of those people that are agnostic or atheist or some other anti-deistic lifestyle, then they would be hopeless. However, I do think that religion inspires hope to a deeper level, no matter who or what you worship. Religion is a form of hope, we have a supreme being who we call God, or Buddha, or Allah, etc., and he/she answers our prayers, and such. But, those atheists/agnostics/others must have hope, because everyone deals with hardships and trials, even if you believe they were just merely coincidence, we all must deal with them. So, we aspire, we persist, we HOPE for the best. So, no, hope has no direct correspondence to religion, but religion can instill and inspire hope in us.

Yes, hope is the very thing every religion is based on. The hope of a better life after this one. Of course this a delusion of a feeble mind trying to justify its existence. Suicide bombers have great hope (or faith) that there reward would be that of virgins in heaven. One delusion is no different then another.

it depends on what you are hoping for. If you are hoping your deity will give you something (even if its your form of salvation) then it probably could be called a religious issue.

On the other hand, if you are hoping to win the lottery, I would not call that a religious issue.

Paul says "If i have hope in Jesus Christ in this life only i would of all men be the most miserable." In hope he means faith, so yes hope is a religious issue.

Why would you think that hope doesn't exist outside of religion?
