This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you go about eating healthy?

Honestly it's not that stupid a question as most people have no idea what it means.

First of all, limit the fat you're taking in. I don't mean eliminate it completely as your body needs some in order to function. Simply cut out as much as you can. Read the labels of the products you buy. Learn the language of ingredients and see what it is you're putting in your body. Oils, butter, margarine & mayonnaise are all fats and you should use these as little as possible. When cooking, use a little bit of oil not too much. When buttering your toast, use half of what you would normally use. When making a tuna salad sandwich, use maybe a tablespoon at most.

Choose leaner meats over fatty ones. Chicken breasts, fresh fish, turkey, lean beef and lean pork can be found all over the place. Learn how to cook these things, they'll be one of the cornerstones of your diet.

Fresh fruits and veggies are another thing you should eat, and eat a lot of especially the dark green leafy ones. When cooking these, try steaming instead of boiling. They'll look better, taste better and be better for you.

When choosing dairy foods, choose those lower in fat. Pick skim or 1% milk instead of whole milk. Choose cheeses that are lower or reduced fat and don't eat a lot of cheese anyway.

Limit the amount of processed and pre-packaged foods you buy. Most of these things are filled with salt, sugar and fat even the "healthy" type things like granola can be loaded with that stuff. This is also why you need to read the labels of the foods you buy.

Limit your alcohol consumption as alcohol is high in calories. You don't have to give it up completely but I would say reduce by several drinks a week what you would normally take.

And finally, enjoy yourself once in a while. Have that slice of chocolate cake but limit yourself to one. Have a slice of pizza and a beer after the game, but stop there. Choosing healthier foods doesn't have to mean giving up the foods you love it just means you need to be more careful of what you're putting in your body.

A quick easy way to eating healthy is to avoid anything that is prepared or processed (no additives such as pastries, processed meats, fast food). Stick with anything natural. Things such as oats, fish, chicken breast, turkey breasts, eggs, green veggies, fruits etc...

If there are more than 3 ingredients on the label make another choice.

Obviously this isn't always practical so when eating out order the leanest choices...even fast food can be healthy if you cut the mayo/dressings and toss the fries.

well considering most people do not eat healthy I would say that this is not a stupid question, first things first, what are you drinking?, you should stay away from carbonated beverages especially diet ones they are definately not good for you, you should drink water approx 64oz a day, next stay away from white bread, it's poison, wheat is so much better, make sure youre getting enough grains most people dont, eating plenty of veggies.. yeah i know theyre not the best at first.. but after a while of your body getting used to good stuff, you will actually begin to crave good food and hate the bad stuff, for energy dont give into the short cuts of caffine and sugar, fruit gives you the energy you need and it lasts. you need some acountability, i wouldnt try to eat healthy and keep unhealthy stuff in your house either its just not smart..

Eating the right amount of each food group everyday. Fruits, veggies, dairy, grains...Eating 6 small meals a day with plenty of water is a healthy way of eating using plenty of fruits n veggies. Don't eat fried foods, bake your food...eat fish/salmon, skim or 1% milk is best.~

I would suggest counting calories, this will help you to not over eat (keeping your portions smaller which is healthy), also try eating lots of fish, chicken, turkey, vegitables, fruits, and dairy... and start cutting out pastas, anything greasy, sugary, breads, and anything boxed (ex. rice-a-roni, boxed pasta, boxed dinners, boxed soups etc). Make sure you are eating a minimum of 1200 calories a day-NO LESS or your body will start storing fat. Here is a great (free) online calorie program that keeps track of everything for you.
