How often? Does she do it when she wants something? Or just chewing on her fingers? Maybe she's more hungry. I know that when my boyfriends daughter was 13 or 14 months she would stick her fingers down her throat if we didn't give her what she wanted and puke in order to get our attention...meaning that we would react and give her what she wanted. But I am not totally sure on an 11 month old...They may be too young to understand that.

My daughter did this too. It's just discovery of new things that give her a reaction "if i do this....."
I noticed my daughters quirky habits were short lived if not made a big issue out of them. Kids love the reaction of getting in trouble too ! Her habits before she was 18 months were gagging, spitting, throwing, and shreiking. They each lasted about 3 weeks and then it was another thing. Nose picking, hiding, diaper being ripped off, undressing, refusal of foods. Fuuuun !!!! You have many funny things ahead !!
But tto be cautious always check to make sure she is not trying to remove something that might be stuck in her throat.
Lots of luck !!!!

Shoe may have developed this as a habit, or may be developing allergies and the weather could make her geel that hse has something in her throat. Chances are it is a habit and she realizes that she is getting some response from you for doing it.

Do get her throat checked. sometimes a sore throat with a bit of swelling on the tonsils or so on induces such behavior in kids this age. perhaps her throats gets dry, does she take enough water?Whenever she does this, try to divert her attention to something else till she forgets.but do have a talk with her paediatrician...

She probably did it the very first time by accident and realized that something different happens when she does that. So of course she will be amazed by it and want to do it over and over. Talk to your pediatrician about it and find out ways to make her stop, but she should stop on her own.
Good luck

She probably did it once by accident and discovered it was a new "cool" thing and so she continues to do it. My son does the same thing and no amount of discipline will make him stop. Furtunately it is a phase that they will outgrow.

Been there, I think they do it because they know it bothers us. My son did it and my nephew did it and it's baffling. But they seemed to get a kick out of our reactions because they would smile and do it again. I just started ignoring my son when he did it and he stopped, goes to show that he thinks he is entertaining me with this stuff and he still does crazy things at 3 to "entertain me".

I am not sure why, but when my son was around that age, he also did it. He mostly did it when he was bored, like when riding in the car, and either my hubby or I would ride in the backseat with him when possible and distract him. We also would try to distract him when he did it other times. (like directly after eating supper!! ) Evenutally he stopped. Good luck!

My youngest son did this too. My pediatrician said that it is a common form of 'self stimulation' similar to rocking, banging their head on the floor, twisting hair etc....
They will outgrow it.
