"A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding. These are the regulations for the woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. She is to bring two doves or two pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean." Leviticus 12: 1-8

Its a cultural thing. In West Africa for instance the birth of a boy means you dont get to cook clean or do anything in particular except look after the baby for 30 days.. If its a girl its for 60 days. There is some wisdom in that i think. Western world your lucky if your mum can come over for a few days to help out. Often western woman has other resposibilities.she has to face on her own In africa the whole family gets involved.

I have no clue but in my opinion no woman is ever unclean at anytime during birth. Sounds like some mid evil crap somebody made up 500 years ago .
What the hell is unclean? I'm a guy and I actually am kind of offended by it, dont know why . What a stupid world .

why must one assume sexist reasons?
God created our bodies , so He alone is the ultimate authority on how our bodies work and what is best for them. Science has not even been able to scratch the surface of how our bodies work and what things affect them how- yet there are those so brilliant and wise in their own eyes- they don't even consider these things before making silly, foolish assumptions such as this and spreading them as fact.
Did you ever consider that different hormones are produced in the mother's body for boys and girls, levels of hormones are also different- you don't have a clue how those levels of hormones affect a woman's body after pregnancy- how those hormones along with particular activities and / or things introduced to the body will affect the woman, affect her nursing baby, etc.
There are a lot of small factors that we don't always understand and we don't consider before we allow our foolish pride to make assumptions about what we don't understand instead of just saying I don't know and asking without the defiant attitude.

It's not uncommon for the birth mother's hormones to trigger a false menstruation in infant females.

Two issues of blood ... unclean for twice the usual amount of time.

The math adds up, even if the logic doesn't.

I'm betting there was some practical reason for all the various OT blood proscriptions, of which we modern day people are simply unaware ... and I doubt it has anything at all to do with sexism.

where did you read THAT warped statement? A woman isn't UNCLEAN no matter WHAT she gives birth to.... granted, it's a messy process, but whether it's a boy or a girl, the mess is all the SAME... and cleaned up within seconds of the birth---I sure hope you don't want to be a doctor when you grow up....

its not unclean, its ritually impure. as for that, the reason for the ritual impurity of menstruation or giving birth is because both of them are loss of life from the body. when women menstruate it means that no new life is growing. when women give birth it means life has just exited her body. the greater the period of ritual impurity, the more severe the loss of life. its kind of like a period of regaining back or recovering the life that was lost.

Probably has somethin' ta do with ppd. That way everyone has a chance to deal with the cultural disappointment that it's not a boy. Unfortunately it is still quite prevalent in other parts of the world.

Jehovah created Adam from the dust of the earth, he created Eve from Adam's rib.
Males inherited the right of first born, of property, etc.
Except in the case where there is no male heir, then the property was divided among the daughters.
It served to remind each one of their place in God Organization at that time but no longer applies today.
