there is a uniondale on long island. it's about a 40 minute train ride (Long Island Raill Road -LIRR) to Penn station in manhatten. at penn station you can get on the subway. long island is the suburbs. uniondale is racially mixed....black, white, and hispanic. i own my own home, but last i heard rent on long island is usually around 1500/month. some areas more, some less. but you get more apartment for your money. my last apartment was 2 bedrooms w/ an eat in kitchen, finished basement, and use of the driveway. i paid 1650/month. this was 3 years ago.

Uniondale is a middle-class African American community. As far as subways, there aren't any on Long Island. You will need to take a bus or the Long Island Railroad commuter train into NYC if you don't drive. Since most of Uniondale are houses, there are a limited number of apartments. You will need to shop around to find a reasonable priced apartment.

Uniondale is a Long Island surburban town. Unless you are right on the turnpike (Route 24), you'll probably need a car to get around. Busses are the main form of public transportation, and you can travel into the city by Long Island Railroad (about 40 minutes). There are no subways out here. Uniondale is quite "minority-friendly" and you wouldn't feel uncomfortable. I don't know the answer about apartments, but it isn't too hard to find rentals in just about any town on Long Island.

Not the subway but the LIRR and buses.
Union Dale has the major colessium where the Islands hockey team plays.
Why not do a search on uniondale on the web and check the local mass transit routes.

Uniondale is friendly to minorities. the only problem is that its on long island. its where nassau colliseum is. You have to take Long Island Bus to the LIRR to jamaica or penn station then you can get to the subways
