I am considering buying a Nissan 350Z. I live in Cleveland, Ohio where it snows and know rear-wheel drive is typically a no-no, but with its 50-50 weight distribution and If I put on some good snow tires, would it be as good as an average front wheel drive car? Also does anyone know of common reliability problems with them?(I'd be getting an '07 so they probably haven't been out long enough.) thanks.

WOW what a good question! I drive high performance cars here in Texas and only get one or two days a year of slick roads. NO the 350Z will be a handfull never let your grip on the wheel slack or concentration waver to just get the car to work will wear you out. Buy a junker ford taurus to winter drive. And when you can use the Summer super sticky tires go play at the mid ohio race track. Sports cars are for high speed fun. My 400 hp car can even give me fit's in the rain. Even with the best snow tires the Z would not be a good choice because the wheel base is not long enough. Preaty much any car that can be coaxed into over steer won't be good in the snow unless you like to spin into a show bank.

RWD is tricky in the snow if you don't know what you're doing. Snow tires will help but I think this is a car best left in the garage for the winter months. As for reliability there were some teething problems in the first model years but I think most of the updates have been performed; I wouldn't worry about it.

Drive rwdnisaans all the time and scarey in the snow.

But did watch TOP GEAR and Jeremy Clarkson drove one in ice like conditions and loved it and felt stuck to the road well so worth checking out a 350z forum really to ask owners.

A Z isnt likely to go anywhere in the snow unless it is being towed by a Jeep.

It can be as good as any other car with proper winter tires on all four corners and driven properly. You can use second gear to take off in slippery conditions or get traction control.
