Both cities have urban life and plently of outdoor activities. But comparatively:

If you want a more cosmopolitan city with more urban life: go to Vancouver.

If you want more outdoor activities with fewer people and more daylight in the summer: go to Anchorage.

OR

You can take a cruise and see them both. Most cruises to Alaska start in the B.C. city of Vancouver. Then you can decide for yourself. After all, isn't that what makes travelling fun?

Have a great trip!

I'd say anchorage. Well, Vancouver wasn't all that great (was there for a trip last summer.)

I live in anchorage. It's not as terribly cold as people think (it's 70 degrees now.)

Plus the people and the culture are nice. Lots of fun things to do too.

Two very different cities. Depends on what you want, but I would have to say Vancouver. Much more to do and plenty to see including great nature sights. If you are looking at more than just the city itself, you might think Anchorage.
