I am touring America later in the year and would like to know if there are tea making facilities provided in the rooms?

As an American tea drinker, I will warn you that making tea in a hotel room can be iffy. A lot of rooms have coffee makers. However, using them to make hot water involves running the water through the brew basket. Even if you wash it, it will always retain some essence of coffee and you will notice a slight coffee taste in your tea.

The alternatives are:
Use a microwave if one is available.
Use hot tap water, which may be hot enough to brew your tea.
Get a submersible heating coil that heats a cup of water at a time.
Switch to bottled cold tea.

If you drink your tea, by dipping tea bags in hot water, you wouldn't have problem, as either a microwave or a coffe maker can provide you with hot water. In case you drink your tea as chai, the Indian way, then you will have to put your taste buds on hold.
The web-sites of all the hotels are quite descriptive of the facilities available, so you should be able to know if your hotel provides a in room microwave or not.

You have to be European! In America, there are coffee makers. If you wash the coffee holder, you can produce hot water and let your tea bag or tea ball steep in the hot water. Its basic but works. I carry Twinings Prince of Wales tea bags.

If you are Asian, its easier, because the tea leaves can be placed in a cup and hot water added.

Facilities is definitely a stretch of the imagination. That word in Slang American English generally is euphamistic for toilet.

Not really, but most do have coffee pots that can be used to heat your water. Many also have microwaves that can be use too.

Many hotels will also have some type of common room that you can get heated water from. It really shouldn't be a problem.
