What we listen to can have as much effect on our lives as what we see. The vast majority of people have no trouble hearing and we do it every waking moment of our lives and even when only semi-awake.
We must be very carefull what we are allowing to enter through our ears. If we spend our time listening to things talking about death and murder we have a tendency to act it out in our lives. If we listen to songs about rape or gratuitous sex, again we tend to think about it and eventually act upon it. Same goes violence, steeling, etc. What kind of jokes are you listening to, and what do you do when you hear a joke that is not pleasing to God? Do you laugh and encourage more, or do you walk away?
There is so much good out there to listen to, why do people(especially some Christians) insist on filling their ears with garbage? We have every genre of music, movies, some TV programs, jokes, comedians, etc. that are pleasing to the ears and I believe that God would aprove of us listening to.

You are so right! I listen to contemporary Christian music, but my fiance, before we were engaged, listened to some music that talked about some pretty bad stuff and it showed in his life; he stole, beat people up and did some pretty bad things, but after he came to know the Lord, he no longer listens to that, and you would praise God as I did if you could see the change it had on him. Not just the music of course, but it really helped and we won't stand for jokes that are perverse or judgmental. All I can say is that our ears are now definitely serving as they should! Great point!

I'm trying to...I've changed my alarm instead of a tone it plays, "Be still and Know that I am God. It wakes me up thinking about the Lord first thing rather than God I don't want to wake up.

I won't listen to or repeat dirty or obscene jokes and only pass on things that are clean. Dirty jokes I walk away and don't listen too.

I see enough violence on the news...I'm finding more and more I'm watching the shows my niece and nephew watch, the kids shows (not all of them are good to watch but some are and you don't have to worry about the language or blood and gore)

I only listen to Christian music in my car. I try not to listen to other kinds of garbage but it is hard since I do spend time with others who are listening to that kind of stuff.

Our ears and eyes are entrances into the soul, I am very careful what I hear and see

we can hear the wrong things and become polluted in the spirit or Holy in our spirit, I want to keep myself unspotted from the world

we should be into the word of God and his ways his music and alway be about our Father's business

My ears are serving me very well, thank you. Your point is well taken. I am especially concerned about the things that go into the ears without engaging the conscious attention, but stick in the mind anyway. Rap is a good example. You walk by someone who is playing a boom box very loud with a rap "song" which includes a lot of hostile, hateful stuff. You don't really hear the words, and you are not really listening. But your unconscious mind took it in anyway, and the next thing you know, you feel lousy without knowing why.

What a crock. I've been listening to rock n roll, metal, alternative and rap for years and I do not act out what I hear. I am not that weak or feeble minded. I do not need a book to keep me in line and I do not need to shelter myself from anything either.

I am a responsible member of my community, I give both time and money to charity, I have never smoked or done illicit drugs, socially drink very rarely and I've never even had a speeding ticket. However, I also will rock out to Ozzy, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Tool.

I used to sing a chorus as a child in Sunday school - it went like this:

Be careful little eyes what you see
Be careful little ears what you hear
Be careful little hands what you do
Be careful little feet where you walk
Be careful little mouth what you speak

Your right, when we corrupt our minds by watching and listening to rubbish, then these intrude into our thoughts, and then can turn to 'doing'. We are all responsible for ourselves.

I'm sorry, but you can't legislate what people listen to, watch, read and talk about. When are you people going give up this ridiculous notion that you can control everything in the world?

I watch horror movies all the time. Doesn't make me want to kill anyone. Kinda makes the rest of your rant pointless.
