Hallelujah is a word of praise to God literally. It is from the Hebrew Hallel and Jah meaning Praise and God or Jehovah respectively.

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
- Leonard Cohen

Yah is the short name for God (long form = Yahweh)
Hallel is a verb which means praise or sing praises to
Lu means WE
so literally it means "we all praise God."
which covers the metaphor pretty well, too.
