So I guess it's only a myth that makes me stuggle so hard with school? It's only a myth that caused me to fail the first year of college, and then get straight A's the second year once I started Ritalin?

I think people just don't have a real awareness of ADHD. There are others who'd make fun of the wheelchair bound, the blind or the deaf. They even laugh at anyone and everyone.

I guess people have a tendency of laughing at others because deep down, they feel inadequate about themselves.

I'm not sure what kind of people you hang around, but I'm not really aware of anyone who has it in for sufferers of ADD/ADHD anymore than say those who have OCD or a bipolar disorder. Sure, there's the occasional joke or "cute" comment concerning one of these ailments, but I don't think there is usually any intentional malevolence towards sufferers.

I don't make fun of it, but these "diseases" are myths. Jay expresses it very well below, first hand and I am a grown adult that will stand behind this.

By the same token, I do not make fun of Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, although I understand that they really don't exist.

Because they are ignorant and don't suffer what we do, because they only see our actions, not our thoughts and our struggle to focus.

because its just another excuse for kids to be bad. theres no chemical imbalance. Its just an excuse for society to say there there its ok if you dont excell in school and mooch off of tax payers money. Trust me they told me i had ADD and thats why i couldnt pay attention in class, it had nothing to do with ADD class was just boring and i would of rather been doing something i wanted to do.
