I don't even know if that statement is true or not. Yet, if it is thought to be true . . . why would a person experience increased tiredness during a period as that of soul growth increasing in awareness etc.?

I imagine there are several psycho-somatic reasons. However, any lengthy and in depth concentration/study of a subject burns a lot more calories than one would think. Example: Cramming for finals in college is also very exhausting. (My grandmother would study the Bible for hours and tell us she was cramming for her finals.)

I'd think the opposite - when I think about times in my life where I have experienced that kind of paradigm shift I have always been more energized!

Any kind of new growth can be tiring. If you're not used to something you need to recuperate.

spiritual growth is often accompanied with trials and can be grind you down for a time before you reap the benefits

i never heard that one ... maybe because "soul growth" is associated with having some trying times ..
