The percentage is not as important as the total miles. We bought a used Honda hybrid a year ago for a commute of about 30 miles each way; the thing would not pay for itself at then gasoline prices but is closer to doing so now. It gets 40 mpg -- not as good as my last VW Diesel, which got 44, but much better than the 20ish of its predecessor. Hybrids are a premium item.

Yes and there are tax braks on this vehcile for certain income levels. You should check it out. You will save on fuel. You will be doing an environmetal benefit to the country. And you can get a tax incentive.
