I was called to volunteer tonight between 8:30 and 10:00 p.m.
I know it will be cold, and dinky me said "yes." They know my name and #. Should I just volunteer or do you think this will plague me if I don't.

If you do say, yes, why, and give a good reason to make me feel guilty. Thanks.

What is this a volunteer for? You shouldn't agree to volunteer for things you don't personally support. I would never volunteer to raise money for a charity if I don't support the work the charity is doing.

Yes it may be cold--but it is an hour and a half. Seriously. Less than 2 hours of your day, week, month, life. What do you possibly have to do that is more important? What are you planning on doing instead? You may miss one of the 7 American Idol shows. I think you'll get over it--or if not, record the thing.

I might feel some sympathy if it was 5-6 hours of being in the cold but can you really even get that hold in an hour?!? Oh sorry...an hour and a half.

Most importantly you said you would. They need so many volunteers and you said yes. They stopped calling to ask for volunteers b/c they knew they had the 8 people (or whatever) that they needed. If you didn't want to do it, its not like they were pressuring you. You could have said no then. They would have called the next person who would have been happy to volunteer. But as it is, you have put them in a horrible position if you don't show up.

And I'd like to add--I completely agree iwth the first post. Doesn't your word mean anything to you? Why should anyone trust your word on anything if it matters so little to you? In the future, don't make promises you have no intention of keeping. To many people--thats unforgivable. I have no desire to have friends that consider me that unimportant. And if I ran a volunteer organization, no interest in having volunteers that are so stingy with barely 2 hours of time we request from them.

Only you can decide if your word means anything though. I know a girl who acknowledges her word is worthless. It doesn't bother her in the least. She doesn't have many friends--but that doesn't bother her either. So like I said--only you know if that matters to you or not.

You said "Yes". If you don't you're a liar.
If you're ok with being a liar, that's on you. I'm not gonna take the time to explain it.
