I think that a begining golf player should be shooting a 125 to 150. Good Luck!

I shot a 172, but before that I had never swung a golf club, and i counted every single stroke(obviously) followed the rules strictly and lost 3 dozen balls. I should've at least gone to a driving range first and gotten fitted for some clubs, i had to rent the clubs from the pro shop. I am a tall golfer and i was playing with short clubs. I can break 100 now after 2 years, some lessons and the correct clubs.

There is no set golf score that I know of. I haven't golfed that long myself, but I love it. However I have been lucky enough to golf with a gal that is now 82 and still golfs good! She didn't teach me to golf, or how to stand etc. I took six lessons that lasted an hour! She told me when I first started----- to count everything-----I mean even the wiffs (when you swing and miss the ball) She said I'll never know if I'm getting better unless I do that. So I did. She helped me learn golf etiquette! Watch a bit of golf on TV. too that will help you learn. Just enjoy yourself---unless you want to turn pro---find another person you enjoy being with and just play to have fun. My first year I never was in the fairway. My second year, I--Well!, I still play like a Singer Sewing machine programed for zig-zag!! Ha ha !! Some days I play good, other days what I do on the course doesn't look like I know how to golf at all!!

I have been playing for 3 years and i am now a 5 handicapp golfer and have started a few people into golf. The majority of beginning golfers will be shooting around 120-140.

First off, no golfer should head out to the course without a few lessons and time on the driving range. You'll make your playing companions a lot happier by getting the basics down before you actually take to the course.

Obviously, your score depends on the course. I would try one of the pitch-and-putt par-3 courses if you have one for a start. About 120 isn't a bad score for an opening round.

Good luck.

well an absolute begineer should get a few lessons some time on the driving range before attempting to take thier game public. but my first full round was like 118. Normal begineers will shoot over 100. Don't feel bad about shooting way high, you will improve and enjoy it more.

If you just started and never picked up a club before, don't be disappointed to shot into triple digits around 120 and up. Average par for a course is 72, and one extra on every hole would already put you at 100. I shot a 119 my first full round. Good luck to you.

i agree with what vern said......go to the driving range, and if you are serious about getting better, get fitted for some clubs
