Black--it is the color of mourning, as well as the symbolic banishment of evil.

I am very sorry for your loss!

Black would be just fine to wear even though white is common to wear at funerals in other parts of the world (I'm in the US). Your best bet is to contact the person who is preforming the ceremony to find out if they're doing a time of morning or celebration*.

*A lot of people feel that when they die (especially of natural causes) that it is not a time of sorrow, but joy that they've passed on to the next level... others find that they'd rather have people celebrating the life they had and all the great memories together instead of weeping and talking in hushed voices.

Whatever the case may be, do not forget that funerals are for the mourners - not the dead. It is okay to express your feeling should you need it, even if it is a celebration of your friend's life. Also, be aware, Pagans like to hug a lot.

Hope that helps!

Wear whatever colours you feel comfortable with. At some Pagan ceremonies they will go 'sky clad' (wear nothing at all), but I don't think that at a funeral open to all family and friends that that would be considered the right thing to do by anyone taking part.

As a Pagan of the Wiccan tradition, I'd say wear nothing at all - this proviso is in my Will for when I die.

However, the law will eschew this, and non-Pagans, and quite a few Pagans too, will find this unacceptable.

Pagans do not view death as sad - death is the passport to tne Summerlands or to another life. Wear a dark, smart suit or costume, or just ordinary smart kit with a black ribbon.

I'm sorry for your loss and wish you well.

Pagan funerals are a celebration of the persons life, so bright colours are welcome.

Where the colour that your friend liked, or liked you in.

Whatever makes you comfortable, if you feel black is more appropriate for you then go with it.

My daughter wore a bright red shirt to my Grans funeral, cos thats what Gran liked her in!

Blessings

The tradition is to wear nothing. Most pagan ceremonies are done naked. You can wear a black raincoat in the car, but leave it in the coatroom.

If you're not a member of his faith community, the appropriate attire is what you'd wear to any funeral.

I've officiated at Pagan funerals, rarely are people going to be offended by your clothes....you're not who they are there to celebrate.

I'd go with standard black unless your friend and you had some other arrangements. When my cousin died, he asked everyone to wear something comfortable or colors/outfits that he loved. He was buried in his holely jeans and Michigan sweatshirt. we used to go out drinking together and I'd wear these red pumps that he always had a good laugh at.... I made sure I wore those shoes.
