could it possibly be because i was open-minded enough to actually consider ALL options before chosing one, rather than blindly following?

lilmissy: no it isn't, and i commend you for actually doing the research before coming to a conclusion :)

Boss Brat: exactly. I have full respect for those who actually read and interpret the bible on their own rather than just taking at face value what others tell them. so i commend you :)

i never said i was smarter, just that i know the bible better than most christians i've met. i have no qualms with most christians and i know many who are intelligent and who also believe in science (in reference to one person's response). i just hink if you follow a religion, you should know your book.

and to whoever asked me to explain which passages made me abandon it: all of them. they're judgemental and condradictory.

Could be. A lot of 'Christians' know nothing about the Bible, only what preachers, teachers and others have told them. I am a Christian, but I don't depend on others to tell me what the Bible does or doesn't say or what it means. I have an aunt who is the opposite. She depends on her 'church' and her husband to tell her what the Bible says and what she is supposed to believe. That is really sad, because we should all choose what we believe or don't believe based on what WE learn, not what someone else tells us!

Last I checked, my IQ is over 140 and I completely trust in the Bible, have read it fully, more than once, and have checked up on the archeological evidence that proves its truth. I also know that all prophecy as foretold in the Bible has come to pass or will come to pass soon (Cyrus is one example, but there are many others). Have any of you so called athiests (I don't believe in athiests, we all worship someone, even if it is ourselves) looked into the physical evidence that exists in many a museum all over the world that proves the truth of the Bible historically? It is fine if you want to be a non-believer in God but do not tell me that you know the Bible. If you did you would believe it. Just reading it doesn't mean you know what it says. I respect your opinion but please keep your perspective about reality as open minded as you say you do and start doing some research.

I have spent many, many years studying the Bible. Yet I still would not be so haughty as to think I know all there is to know about it. I continue studying and learning. It is a treasure trove of wisdom and knowledge. (Proverbs 2:1-5) While I agree that many professed Christians are lazy about actually digging into their Bibles and copying the fine example of the ancient Beroeans who carefully examined the scriptures to make certain of what Paul was teaching them, I do not understand that atheists, who may have read the Bible, not studied it, feel they know more than persons who study and continue studying it.

Many believers in the bible haven't taken the time to actually read the book but rather rely on a minister, pastor, priest etc. to spoon feed them passages each Sunday....

There is only so much insight one can have when one does not take the time to learn for oneself but rather regurgitates what one has heard from another..

no, it's because you only know 10 Christians. I have seen what's wrong with other religions. if they wanna take someone else's word for it, why does that hinder you?

statistic: the universe that we know, able to support human life, was a 1 in 10^123 chance of existing

belief: God has to be pretty personal then, so that invalidates many religions.

belief: God isn't discriminatory. this means that religions with core beliefs that only one type of people is worthy of God's attention must be wrong.

so so far, buddhism, Christianity and agnosticism are the only religions I know of that are left to be eliminated.

belief: if good exists, there has to be a standard, or else good doesn't matter at all. that knocks out buddhism, which believes everyone is correct.

belief: God is real. there goes agnosticism

So I will acknowledge you know the Bible, however, no matter what you will not acknowledge that I or any other Christian, for that matter, knows the first thing about science. Oddly Christians and atheists think the other side knows nothing about their position, when in fact many on the other side know the "enemy's" position quite well.

I have studied the Bible and have gone to at least 7 different churches. I have questioned my own belief. It was a rough 2 years. I believe that prayer and God led me to my faith and I am not a blind follower.
You could have met Christians who are still taking baby steps and learning.

I am one of the few Christians I know that have read the Bible more than once. It is a sad state of affairs when people don't read the one book they claim to follow.

Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life, there is no other way accept through the Father.

I am so happy that you think you know 90% of the Bible. Anyone can know the bible but to live by God's words in the Bible will be saved.
That is just what God gave us all, "freewill" to choose, and we respect your choice as an atheist, however, why do you have a difficult time accepting our choice to follow the Lord? My eyes are wide open and I see with all light. Who is the blind one?
God Bless-

If you know more about the Bible than 90% of Christians that you've met, than I would like to know which verses cause you to feel that the book is fiction?
