ok, now before you start saying anything about me being to young for dieting and stuff let me explain myself.

School got out for me just last Thursday [17th], and I'm not happy with how I look.

I'm 5ft 4in, and I weigh 174lbs.

So, over this summer I was wondering how much It was possible for me to lose before oh, about August 17, that's around the time school gets back in.

I'm up for about anything. [except anything that will put my health in danger, and stuff I'd have pay for over the internet]

So, I want to know what I can lose, and what I can do to lose it.

Please help me, I want to lose most of my gut by the end of summer.

[If I can't accept myself, how can other people?]

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Just watch your portions, cut out the sugary things, especially soda. Make sure you get at least 4 servings of fruit and veggies each day and lots of exercise. Spend some time at the pool for exercise and a great tan. You could expect to lose 15-20 pounds this way.

You might also want to consider going vegan, for health and weightloss as well as animals and the environment. I've lost 30 pounds since becoming vegan and I haven't even tried.

Nevermind dieting at your age, as someone said. No one should ever diet. People forget about eating healthy and exercising as much as possible. That's all there is to it. Just educate yourself on which foods are best, and which healthy foods your body truly craves. Exercise, at least 45 minutes 5 days a week, even if it's just a walk at the lake or bike riding. And check out extrapounds.com It's all private, but will inspire you!

At your age the best way to drop some pounds would be to cut out soda and snacks and just get moving. Go outside and play. Jump rope, play tag, anything that gets you moving. Sitting around the house playing on the computer or watching television is the main reason young kids are overweight. I wouldn't recommend dieting at your age, but just watch what you eat and go have some fun with friends.

Hi Tori!
I know how yu feel and I've been there!
I'm glad you want to lose weight in a healthy mature way. Don't go on a "diet". It is impossible to stay on a "diet". Instead, make up your mind to eat healthier and smarter. Weight will come off on it's own and you won't have to feel deprived all the time, like you do on a diet! You're a smart young lady!
My best advice is:
Definitely give up the sodas! When I was back in middle school, I lost about 15 lbs by giving them up! Of course, don't substitue sugar-sweetened kool-aid for sodas or you defeat your purpose! :)
When you go out to eat, choose healthier meals, like instead of fried chicken and french fries, choose a grilled, baked, or broiled chicken breast and have a baked potato or salad.
At home, get an apple or a banana instead of a cookie or a candy bar.
If you get the munchies at night, snack on unbuttered popcorn. You can get the "light" popcorn for the microwave, you will save lots of fat and calories that way! If you want a cookie or piece of cake, instead try some graham crackers. Rather than ice cream, eat fat free frozen yogurt. For practically any food you can think of, there's something you can substitute in it's place that's healthier and actually still tastes good! ;)
And drinks lots of water! It has no calories and is cleansing to the body, a very healthy thing! It can also help you feel fuller faster!
If you like milk, drink the fat-free/skim milk. And don't be fooled into thinking that fruit juices are low-cal! They're very high in calories! A small glass now and then is okay.
And get active! Ride your bike, take some walks with your family and/or friends (always be safe! Too many creeps out there!) Play ball, fly a kite, go swimming, if you have a dog, play fetch with him! Try not to camp out in front of the computer or television too much. When you watch TV, you can actually be exercising at the same time. During commercials, you can do jumping jacks, sit-ups, etc. And during the program, you can even jog in place and do waist-trimming exercises.
And some other VERY important pieces of advice:
***NEVER starve yourself. All that accomplishes is messing up your metabolism. Your body thinks it is in a famine situation and will actually store up fat as a protection against starvation! So eat small meals throughout the day instead.
***If you start feeling bad or something just doesn't feel right, listen to your body. Tell your mom or another supportive adult about how you're feeling as you don't want to risk your health.
***When exercising, make sure you keep yourself well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
***Let your parents know that you're wanting to lose weight in a healthy manner and so you'd like their support and encouragement. You don't want mom or dad to be sabotaging you by bringing in foods that are very hard for you to resist.
***And last, if you "cheat" or "mess up", DO NOT GIVE UP!!! Everyone has their moments of weakness. The trick is to make up your mind to keep on trying until you succeed!
I'm cheering you on! GO, TORI, GO!!!!! :^)

try getting less candy, pop and eat stuff like vegetables and meats like chicken and maybe fish ( if you like it) . do not eat alot of fried food cause that is fattening and go out and mess around with your friends . i ate like that and lost enough weight to fit back into my old jeans. besides you are still growing by time you are 18 to 21 you might be much taller and thinner so do not worry about it. also drink water . if you must eat the junk food limited it to once a day. you 're a kid so enjoy your sweets but don't eat too much.

at your age, what worked for me is to stay off candy, soda, bread, arizona green tea, exercise, and eat nutritious things- that will make u feel full because of the protein in them- dont go on a "brand diet" like Weight watchers or Adkins, or Jenny Craig or anything like that. at 13, all u have to do is be careful with your meal action. it worked for me! I lost quite a bit of my stomach.( in a good way ) BTW- My name is Tori too!
