Dont believe all the BS about what a piece of crap Hyundai's are. A few years back Hyundai had some problems with quality, no doubt. But now Hyundai is #3 on the initial quality JD Power report. The 07 Accent is a very nice small car, head and shoulders above the older Accent. Totally redesigned for 07, better mileage and a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. Many people forget about Honda's quality problems in the mid 70's when they first started selling cars in America. Don't be afraid to buy a Hyundai, they are good cars (now)!!!!

A 5 year old Accord might be better then a new Accent, of course it will cost you about the same too. I like Hyundai, but wouldn't buy an Accent or any other brand car that small unless I lived in the city. If you don't do much highway driving or need to carry adult passengers then the Accent is a wonderful car to own. Hyundai is ranked #3(higher then Honda or Toyota) in initial quality by JD Power and #7(higher then any European or American brand) in overall reliability by Consumer Reports. Take a test drive and see if its the right car for you...if not buy a 2 yr old Sonata for about the same price.

It should be decent.
Some people think (newer) Hyundais are crap for 2 reasons:
1. Many owners (and crappy mechanics) do not know how to maintain their cars. When the car needs repair, the owner thinks they're crap.
2. Non-owners don't have experience with newer Hyundais and are basing their opinions on Hyundais of the 80s and 90s.
So in reality, Hyundai cars in general are decent. They're not special and well engineered, but they are reliable if maintained properly. I don't have a Hyundai, and I have never owned or driven one. But my understanding is that Hyundai is on the upswing. They are focusing on and delivering quality and better performance. But don't expect too much from an Accent - it is an economy car. But it should be reliable only if you learn how to maintain it properly. Without proper maintenance, most economy cars will have a lot of problems down the road.
