they really want to get closer to GOD so they pick at us Christians so they can get more information about Christ.

I believe that is exactly what it is.

And if any atheists answer this questions they we all will know exactly why they are on here......to get closer to God.

Thank all of you that answer

AND HAVE A BLESSED DAY
MAY GOD BE WITH YOU ALL.

*eyeroll* And you're only talking to atheists because deep down you know that gods don't exist.

Right?

Right?

It is called Religion & Spirituality, not just close-minded-bible-thumping-Religion. It is completely possible to be a spiritual person with a spiritual practice without subscribing to a theology. So atheists should be just as welcome here as anyone else.

Honestly, whatever happened to the tolerance and unconditional love for others that Christ taught? What makes it OK to follow some of his teachings, but not this one? I'm sorry you feel "picked at" because others disagree with you, but if you want to understand suffering than think about the poor guy that had to carry his own cross up the hill and then cross his legs because his persecutors only had three nails.

I come here because I've met a lot of wonderful people from a beautiful and diverse background of spiritual traditions on R&S. These are people who are kind, have positive thoughts and treat everyone as a friend. They are male and female, Catholic and Buddhist and Wiccan and Atheist and they are each beautiful, compassionate, wonderful, non-judgmental people.

I do not believe in your god. But if I did, it would be logical that I would believe he created everyone and loves everyone and that therefore I should also love everyone and not trash atheists for being different.

I believe there are 2 levels of atheists. One is the sort who will not or feels that they cannot believe in God because...whatever their reason. The other is the one who says there is no God to the point of Madeline Murray O'Hare's level of trying to get rid of Him.

The first is rather sad. They may have been hurt or question much of life's tragedies and can't see how God exists among all this.

The second is one I have once said doesn't really exist. If there is no God, why try so hard to get rid of Him? If He really does not exist, His name and all He stands for should be no threat, right?

Read Lee Strobel's "Case for Faith". He opens with a conversation with a minister-turned-atheist. You can see the first one I described. The whole book, and his first, "Case for Christ" are excellent resources and dispell some of the atheistic notions about God and creation.

By the way, this is Religion and Spirituality. Atheism is a religion, if you think about it.

Actually I'm agnostic and will not believe in deities until empirical proof comes about. However, I will say your assumption about atheists is rather pretentious. There could be many reasons why anyone of any belief system is here since christianity isn't the only one. How do you know they don't wish to learn more about Buddhism or do you just assume that everyone who comes and isn't a christian wants to find out more about a non-divine human being who died almost 2000 years ago?

Perhaps you should open your eyes and your mind a bit.

I'm not an atheist but I'm not on yahoo answers because I want to get closer to god. In fact, I think half the people on here would steer people AWAY from God with their ridiculous rants.

99% of all Atheism is a direct result of Christianity.

So, you think saying "and if any atheists answer this question we all know exactly why they are on her...to get closer to god" is going to make us stay away because you in your demented mind will get a laugh out of it?

Yeah, sorry.

I come on here and answer many questions that you christians should know for yourself. You, if anything come to this forum for our insight and interpretations without the bias as you all have when it comes to christianity.

As much as some people may want to believe that, I don't think it is the case. Some (as like any group) come to just be ignorant and bash, others come for some conversation and others I think come to become informed of other's beliefs.
There is nothing wrong with gaining knowledge on any subject, some people just like to learn.
They also believe they are right, like anyone else and they want to inform others as to why they do not believe in a god.

I am an atheist, and I particularly enjoy being here on Yahoo! Answers Religion and Spirituality to answer questions from an atheist's perspective, and to correct misconceptions about atheists and atheism that are passed around by misinformed god-believers like yourself.

Believe me, if I wanted to be closer to god, the last place to do that would be among narrow-minded, think-they-know-it-all, self-proclaimed god-believers like yourself.

Actually, according to Revelations 21:8, I expect God will be using me as a roman candle on judgment day: he'll toss me into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone, I'll snap, crackle and pop, and all you saved Christians will go "ooo, aaaa" and ask God to throw another into the lake.

I just want to be sure my willingness to entertain you on Judgment Day is based on a sound knowledge of, and rejection of, a brutal deity who drowned all the babies during the Flood.

Enjoy ;-)

Its funny that you would say "god be with you all" to disguise the fact that you are being an ******. Keep up the good work and the lies christian. Do you still think I want to get closer to god?

And does it make you feel better to believe that? If that the only way you can continue to cling on to your own faith? By believing everyone else is a christian wanna-be so you must be right in your beliefs? Is your own faith so weak you need to distort reality like that?

Well, I guess if you're weak enough to need a god in the first place, a little self-deception like the one you just told is nothing to you.

Good luck with that.
