Being a thrifty person my partner and I have done some research into various ways of buying a car. One advantage of buying from a rental company is that it is to their advantage to keep their cars in good condition. We have also read that they give get rid of cars when they are a certain age no matter what the condition. They will of course have a lot of miles but according to what we have read they probably will have been well maintained. So there is an element of luck involved. I would definitely have a mechanic look at any car I was interested in purchasing this way. It certainly seems possible to get a good deal but of course not certain.

I bought a Thunderbird years ago from Budget Rent-A-Car. They had a regular car lot set up in my town where they sold the rentals. I got a great deal, thousands less for the car than i would have paid at a ford dealership. The car was in great shape, low miles. Usually the larger rental companies only use the cars for around 2 years and most have less than 30,000 miles on them when they sell them.
I would say go for it.

Think about it---rental cars are usually beat pretty well by people who drive them and don't care because it's not their car. Often, they are not maintained very well. I would not buy one without having it thoroughly inspected by a good mechanic and even then I'd be wary. Make sure to look at any maintenance records they have for it also and see if they offer any kind of warranty.

I wouldn't, so many different people have driven these cars, and you have to know that, they didn't treat them with the kindness they would, if they owned the car. Many have extremely high mileage, and I bet, a good many of these cars has been abused. Unless you can get a deal too good to be true, I'd stay away from that group.

Sure. Most rental agencies typically auction their vehicles after two years. Although they usually have high mileage, they are very well maintained (the agencies don't want to pay for customer's inconveniences).
My late father once bought a used Ford Escort for well below the market price at an auctioned vehicle from Hertz. It was the best deal he ever made.

Yes a very good and cost effective Idea.... these cars are maintained and are low mileage and have lots of life left in them and are a fraction of what a brand new car costs....

I propose in simple terms renting a automobile for the weekend purely. you may want to surely get by technique of for $1000 and be driving a sparkling automobile each weekend. places like organisation might want to even furnish the automobile to you. in case you belong to any automobile club or fraternal organisation you are able to commonly get a chit, too.
