It means that the end justifies the means in love and war.
You do what you have to in order to win the love and affection of someone.
You do what you have to in order to win a war.
It is all fair...no matter how unfair it might seem...as long as you win.

Exactly what it says. Whether you are trying to win the hand of a loved one, or trying to win a battle, any strategy that works, can be useful. Of course, this assumes that you are going to be the winner. But whether you win or lose, you still have to live with yourself afterwards, and the old saying doesn't have anything to say about that.

It means that in love, and in war, you do what you have to do to get what you want -- no rules.
Basically it's a statement that was made up to excuse one's own unethical or immoral behaviour.

It means that what happens, happens; you can't deny reality.
Unfortunately some people misunderstand this and see it as a green light for doing whatever they want to do.
These people don't understand the other law of life:
You reep what you sow. (Or what comes around, goes around). = kharma.

Cheat, lie, hit them when they're up, kick them when they're down; the end justifies the means as long as you're the one who wins.
