I am lost. I feel that my life has no purpose. I can't accept life. As a kid, I always felt immortal, indestructible. I was living a dream, escaping in fake optimism. But now, as I grew up and faced reality, I feel really appalled. I cry when I think that I will live to see my loved ones die. I wish to die before seeing those days. I suffer when someone suffers, and wish to take away their pain. Why am I so sensitive? Am I the only one who feels as such?

Welcome to the club.
We all at one time or another felt invincible and indestructible.
Heck, most of the athiests here think so, too until, offcourse when their lives take a really bad turn, then they suddenly believe and seek God.

The best you can do is to pray to God to show you the way and to always pray to God to ask Him to keep your family safe.

I cannot give you a quick and easy answer. I can tell you that it is not easy being very sensitive. You are not alone there. There are a lot of people like us in the world, and a lot of others who think we are crazy. Its feels like a curse sometimes but it is a great gift to be able to care like that, because sometimes we end up changing someone's life for the better. We also tend to be liked by a lot of people because we care.

Optimism is not great but pessimism is not great either. Reality does have its bad parts but it also has so many good things too. It is tough to see sometimes though. You may be suffering from depression too. I cannot say based just on this one question. I am not going to proselytise here but I am going to tell you the truth: Jesus Christ has helped me through so many things and through so much pain, anger and fear. I did experience those things but being Christian (not the fake kind) changed my perspective on everything completely. I know telling you this probably does not help but that's just the way it is.

Perhaps you should search the Internet for sites about hypersensitive people, depression and coping with death. That might be a place for you to start. Hang in there, no matter what :-). When life kicks you in the teeth, kick it back until it bleeds profusely.

I too am what I feel at times to be "too sensitive". You are not alone in your feelings. I feel the same many times. Music helps me, but not all things are for all people. When pain excceeds the resources for coping wth said pain, these empty feelings arise. There's a good web site attached below. All I know to tell you is that you're not alone and I find comfort in that (sometimes). Hang in there. Life is just a series of questions, never answers. Keep asking!!!!

NO your not alone or even unique in what you feel about all of this.
you should understand that while you may no longer be a kid and your thinking has changed from then your thinking will continue to change.
in time you will see more understand more and have more questions . one day you will come to see that death is a part of life and that the very idea that nothing comes after death is just a stupid idea.
death is just another step in life.
death is one step we cant choose when to take or how to take it but we can come to trust that when the time comes to take that step we will be ready.

It's normal for a child, whose consciousness barely extends beyond himself to family and friends, to believe he's the only one who feels love like this, pain like this, or whatever. Buddha tells a story -- a woman came to him grieving over the loss of her child and asking Buddha to bring the child back from the dead. Buddha said he'd do it provided she brought him a cup of (whatever, rice, water, don't remember) from a house in which there'd been no death. She went from house to house with no success, and eventually understood that her pain was nothing special, that everyone suffers.

You might hunt down Viktor Frankl's book, "Man's Search for Meaning." Or Solzhenitsyn's "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich." Even in a concentration camp it's possible to find meaning in life and reasons to live. Or James Carse, "Finite and Infinite Games."

It's not the pain and suffering that's important, but the understanding of life that makes it all worth while.

"The joy of infinite play, its laughter, lies in learning to start something we cannot finish."

You are not alone, I too was once like that. But you must learn to go on. Do you have a religion?
I feel that a life without a purpouse doesnt seem worth living.
I am a christian. I feel my purpose is to live a life dedicated to jesus. If you turn to a religion(prefrably christianity) you will find a purpose to go on.

You are one to carry someone elses burdens, and God does say that in the Bible to do so, but you fail to mention if you pray or what your faith is if any. Open your Bible, read, talk to a pastor, and pray with others. You seem to have a big heart, and care for others, and pray about others who you wish to take away the pain for, God will hear and also comfort you too. 2 corinthians- God of all comfort.

No, it's perfectly natural. Better to be sensitive than to have no compassion for anyone or anything.

if you're a human, empathy, sympathy and compassion are normal. geez, there's nothing wrong with you. as for your beliefs, life seems to have more purpose when you want it to have one. Christ gives you one of you want. I have a different reason for following Him though
