Not all Christians or even Christians in general hate atheists. Not all atheists are even atheists in general hate Christians or Muslims. It's a small, but very vocal minority on both sides that keeps things stirred up. I have several wonderful Christian friends who are fascinating people to talk to, and I have several Muslim and atheist and pagan friends who are fascinating to talk to. The thing they have in common is that they are good conversationalists, religion notwithstanding. What could explain the Christ-like behavior? Using the Bible or Holy Book in question as a magic 8-ball to justify a pre-existing hatred.

long before the internet was even thought of, so called christians were practicing all kinds of hate including bashing people who did not follow their beliefs. Alot of what you are seeing from posts from atheists is an outlet for all of the frustration they have as a result of being preached to by hipocritical christians. And if you look at the board objectively you will see there are just as many hateful judgemental posts coming from christians. the atheists may be angry, but at least they are not shoving their beliefs down everyones throats by promoting it with judgement and scare tactics - a practice I am sure Christ would have NO part in. Incidently, I am not an atheist, but I am not a christian either. If i had to choose who i would hang out with and have as friends, i would pick the atheis in a second.

I've actually had some voice their opinions to me. I don't really argue with them. I figure they are entitled to believe or disbelieve what they want. It's my job as a Christian to help get the word out though. The world is a better place when you believe and follow the laws of the Lord. For those that choose to hear what I say and still go about their atheist ways, they'll just have to wait and see and for their own sake hope they were right in not believing.

I've had plenty of encounters with Christians and have always been honest with them. When I was in High School, before the O'Hair decision banned school prayer, roving gangs of Christian punks beat-up any non-Christian they could find, including teachers. I've suffered four beatings because I've been too honest with intolerant Christian punks.

Do you think it's hateful when I say that all religion is simply mythology or that Christian belief is nothing more than contrived superstitious dogma?

Please notice that the above sentence is criticism directed at the institution of Christianity and is not a personal attack. I've no doubt you are too immature to appreciate the difference, but you should get used to it, because there's going to be a lot more serious criticism of Christianity's corrupt superstitious doctrine coming. It's time for Christians to face the truth about themselves and their corrupt mythology.

I wish people would stop making blanket remarks about atheist. Yes, I see some A hole atheist but I see more Christians A holes hiding behind their religion. The reason a lot of us are not saying it loud in the real world is because the stigma that is attached because of religious propaganda. I lost a job because I'm an atheist. Could you say the same because you're a christian?
Keep those thumbs down coming. An atheist that speaks her mind and wont stay hidden. Scary huh?

You are clearly selectively reading and taking
offense. I have seen just as many pot shots
as atheists, if not more - and sniping at Muslims,
Jews ...

And I've seen Christians sniping at each other
over variations across that faith.

Religion is a contentious subject.

And by the way, "Why don't you say it loud and
proud in the real world" is a self defeating point.
Its not because they aren't proud - its because
so many religions discriminate against atheists
above and beyond other religions.

Christians hold the majority in the US and there
is a lot of specific discrimination against atheists.

I offered to give an un-sermon at a local church once and they said "no". All I wanted to do was read some passages from Richard Dawkins' book. Go figure.
