Yeah, that's a pretty widely used quote from Lewis. I think he was mistaken in portraying Jesus as a possible madman (or worse), like there couldn't be a harmless, mildly crazy person that may have unraveled a social order that, at the time, was rather barbaric. That's not even to say that what is "known" of Jesus could have been mostly fabricated, but still served as a catalyst in the revolution of religious thinking happening at the time. Lewis created a false dichotomy (son of god or a madman), with one side of that being somewhat a straw-man. Then he beat the straw-man to a pulp.

I have never told a christian to become an atheist. Or any other religion in fact. Many Christians have told me I'm going to hell, and that I must pray for my soul and follow Jesus. I do let people live and let live. The problem is I have seen more Christians that do not follow this quote. It's always believe like I do or else. Also I will mind my own business when they do and stop telling me how and what I should believe in and live for.

Huh?

I ain't preaching. That what you folks do.

My beliefs are far from materialistic. Why do you say they are?

I don't want Christians to follow me. I just want them to stop spreading lies about atheists and how we tend to think and live.

As for minding my own business, well this is a public forum. If you don't want to have anything to do with other points of view, perhaps you should go elsewhere.

No need to get hostile friend. There is a logical explanation.
YOU OPENED UP A HORNETS NEST WITH THE WAY YOU CAME OFF!

There are two families in the universe. The Bible calls them "children of light" and "children of darkness." Those who have accepted Christ are children of light. Everyone else is a child of darkness as Christians were before salvation.

Light and darkness cannot occupy the same space at the same time so until the light of the glorious gospel of Christ comes into the soul it continues on in darkness of the worst kind - "spiritual darkness."

To illustrate - If you were sitting in a pitch black room, and suddenly someone shined a bright flashlight into your face, your first response is to put up a defense or shield your face from the light with your hand or arm or you would turn away from the light because it hurt your eyes.

The defensive mechanism in children of darkness works in much the same way when the light is shared with them. The difference in this illustration is that some unbelievers will decide to stay in the dark no matter what you say to them.
Some will become vehement against the truth and some will passively continue to believe what they want.

We are only here to sow the seeds of truth. It is God's business to bring the increase. The harvest will reveal what effect the seed had on those we reach out to.

The same can be said for may Christians.. There are those on both sides who will militantly try to bring the other side over..

This is not a one sided issue.. A better question would be...

"Everyone why can't we all have a calm exchange of views without accusations, name calling, and anger.. And agree to live and let live?.."
