The term "messiah" means "anointed one." So, as far as the title goes, there could be a number of messiahs. Theoretically, most of Israel's kings and priests could be considered messiahs because they were anointed for their positions. In fact, the anointing of kings was supposed to be a foreshadowing of the true Anointed King to come.
However, there is a certain Messiah that the prophets proclaimed would come from Heaven to save his people. The original Israelite belief is that Jehovah himself would come down from Heaven to save his people. This prophecy was fulfilled with the birth of Jesus Christ into the world.
Although there are others that can be called messiah, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was the Messiah that the Jews were waiting for.

Jesus Christ is the sole messiah not because he was GOD incarnate, (he was), but because he fulfilled the 10 commandments and sacrificed his own life for us so we now have the chance for redemption. There is really not a need for another.

There will be one false messiah that will deceive the nations in the tribulation period just before the second coming of the true Messiah.
