I'm renting a 6'X12' trailer to pull 1500 miles behind my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not sure exactly the best way to pack it to keep from fish tailing. Should the heavier things go in front (toward Jeep) or evenly distribute weight?
Any info would be appreciated.

Fishtailing is caused by inadequate "tongue weight". That is the weight on your Jeep hitch. A good rule of thumb is 10% of the weight of the trailer should be on the hitch. There's no way to to easily determine this, so just avoid putting too much heavy stuff in the back. If the tail end of the Jepp is sagging, you don't want that either. The way I like to load trailers is to put the big stuff in first, and the little stuff around it. Use padding between the fragile items, and use boxes wherever possible. they stack better and protect the contents. Labeling the boxes makes it easier to determine what room they go to at the end of your trip. Newspaper or bubble wrapped items (in the boxes, and taped closed) help protect fragile items. Also, I try to put durable, non-fragile stuff (books, etc) on the bottom, and breakables on top of the stack. Hope your jeep has a V8, as a six cylinder engine may prove slightly underpowered for that size trailer, especially in hilly terrain. I've had experiences with this. Hope this helps, good luck with your trip.

Use square container to better utilize the trailer and pack the trailer slightly heavy on the hitch.

you should have the center of the weight just in (about a foot) front of the axle on the trailer. the fish tailing comes from loading too much weight in the back, also too much weight in the front will cause it to bounce.
