I want to get some tattoos but my mom is against them and I am only 17 so I need parent consent. So how should I put it out there to her? I kinda wanted to just ask her then if she said no tell her well in 1 year I will have one anyways but that might cause tension.

Don't tell me not to get one cause I am. I was gonna get Detroit down my arm and a crown on my back. Then later on get 313 and DTS on me.

well...moms being moms they rarely want us to have body art... SO if you can't convince her now chances are you'll never convince her.
wait til you're 18 when she can't tell you no.
happy inking!

Tattoos are permanent and I know thats obvious but some people cant quite get that in their heads. Be sure first of all that you have thought about what you wanted for a very long time. If you are still sure you want to do it, here is what you should say to her...
"Mom, I have been thinking about this for a very long time, and I have decided that I would like to get a tattoo." (explain to her what you would like to get and ask her for her opinion. This is what will show her that you value her opinion and that you are mature about it. Maturity is a big thing with parents and tattoos.) If she says she won't give her consent then ask if she understands that when you are 18 you will be making the choice of getting the tattoo. If you need something more direct then here ya go: "I want you to understand that when I am 18 I will be getting this tattoo, I just thought that if I got it now with your consent, I could know for sure that you approve because I really value your opinion." (Parents love that stuff)
Hope this helps :)

Well it will prob cause less tension if you wait until you're 18 which is only another year so what's the big deal? You really want a tattoo??? Then be a grownup about it - and right now it doesn't sound like you are.

My parents tried to talk me out of getting one too. But the day I turned 18 I got one.
I'm now 43 years old and last year I had my tattoo surgical removed.
Looking back over both decisions - I don't regret either.
Good luck.

yo man, they are right....the only way to get her to consent is to be an adult about the situtation. Sit down with her and tell her you really want to talk about something important to you. Make sure you tell her that you have put a lot of thought into it. You have it set in your mind that you want a certain tat and you are really excited and feel like her approval would be much needed. Or you could BS her and tell her that you could go to a shady tat shop that won't i.d. you and risk infection, and you would just assume having her approval!!! GO the first route man!!

I would just wait a year, but just ask, but if she says no lol don't throw a fit or show you're upset because it will make you look less mature, and when you do get it done she will be less accepting. I would show her the design you want and tell her you will pay for it, and find a studio you want to get it done at and tell her about it - make it sound like you're really serious about it.

maybe it's not A tattoo that she doesn't like, it's the gansta crap you think you want all over yourself. it'll be really badass when you're 40 and trying to get a realy job (hopefully) and you look like some punk street kid. don't do it for your own good. draw them on with a sharpie or something. no one can tell in the mug shots anyway.

why not just wait? it'll just piss your mom off no matter what you say and one year really isn't that long to wait anyway. i wish i had waited longer to get tattoos. not because i don't like them but because i would have made wiser tattoo choices.

Tattos can be lovely. Might I suggest selecting a gorgeous tiny one for HER and pay for it. She might not take you up on the offer, but she'll be distracted enough to reconsider one for YOU.
