Brand new, I'd probably go with the CR-V. The engine's just adequate, but it should be very reliable and resale value is very good.

The Rav4 has an available V6 engine but I think it's overkill and adds a couple grand to the price.

The Escape is a good vehicle but like most domestic models it will depreciate like crazy, and has the worst MPG of the three (with the exception of the hybrid model, but that is significantly more expensive).

On the other hand, if you are shopping for a used model, the Escape can be a good deal because of the aforementioned depreciation.

Toyota Rav4, if you would have asked me a few months ago I would have said stay American and go with the Ford. Since then I have found out that most of the fords are made in Mexico anyway. And Toyota has some plants in the US. They just opened one in the Nashville, TN area.

anyways, i would choose the 08 escape because it looks more rugged and has better offroad capabilities. also, the hybrid escape get 34 mpg. the rav4 and cr-v's interior is too plain. after all, the escape is was the best selling small suv since 2001.
