I would say it depends upon the owner. If they
are raised since pups then the owner will likely
bring them to what they are when they are adults.
They are very protective of their owners but the
owners can control them. I had an aunt that was
72yrs old and had six pit bulls and everytime I
went to visit her she would order them and they
obeyed and even though I was un-easy and
made sure they were detained before I went on
her property, she was always able to control them.

If you have to ask the question, then yes. Its a strong willed dog with a great hunting instinct (archetypal memory!!) . While there are pit's with a sweet and amiable temperament no matter how you treat them, they are still not a dog for a novice owner. Its not about good or bad owner, its about educated vs uneducated owner. I had a very aggressive Pit with a strong will and an attitude toward other dogs. He lived a long healthy life without incident because I remained aware and in control. Sooo in short its not the dog, its not the owner, its the incorrect combination of the two that can be deadly.
As for "cold blooded" its just doing what comes naturally, there is no malice in the dog, its brain says GET IT!! CHEW IT!!!!!!!! and that's exactly what he does.

They are not cold blooded killers...no animal is (in the correct sense of the term anyway) Pitbulls are not as smart as other dogs, and they are tempermental, but it really comes down to the owners, if pit bulls were cold blooded killers "the little rascals" would not have been gathered around one.

I had a next door neighbor with a pit bull, the most ferocious thing it did was to wrap her legs around mine so I would stay and pet her. She also was very protective of the kids, if we raised our voices to get onto the boys, she would growl at us, while licking our hand. It is the way the dogs are raised and how much interbreeding there is.

If they are raised to be!!! All dogs are what humans makes them to be!! My daughter has three that are inside dogs raised with my two granddaughters that are 6 & 4 years old. One of the dogs she has had for 51/2 years, the other 3 years & the last one to arrive she has had for a year. Two of them have been raised with the children most of their lives and there has never been a problem with them. Now IF someone was to harm the children I'd say they would be dangerous!!!! They are big babies!!

It's not the dog, it's the owner. If they are in a loving family and have been socialized to people and other animals, they can be just as sweet as any dog. Pit Bulls are known as being tough dogs and some owners get them only to make them mean.

My friend and my boyfriend both have pit bulls and they are both(the dogs) the biggest babies I have ever seen. If one was dangerous it was probably because of the way it's owner raised it.

no, all pits are not mean, like the others said it all has to do with the owners...I have a pit that is spoiled rotten and i have a 2 year old son that likes to ride him like a horse.....needless to say my pit will get up and knock him off and lick him to death...If i had any indication that he was to be a threat to me or my son, Boomer (my pit) would not be in my house!

They are an aggressive breed. They aren't "cold blooded killers", but have been known to change temperaments quickly.
It is in their breeding to be more aggressive. Just like some breeds are more active, some breeds are more laid back, some breeds require special grooming, some breeds have stronger herding instincts, and some breeds are more aggressive. (It doesn't make them "evil dogs", but people need to be aware of this trait and handle to dogs appropriately.)
If you ignore the breed traits (ANY breed traits, not just aggressiveness; in ANY breed of dog), that is showing much ignorance and it's a recipe for disaster.
(And 'disaster' doesn't have to mean someone gets bitten or attacked; it could be a person just can't handle an active dog or a dog that requires special grooming, so the dog is not cared for correctly or gets dumped at the shelter.)

Not necessarily. It depends on how they were bred and/or raised.
My family adopted a pit bull from the shelter when I was a kid. We named her Onyx, and she was one of the most gentle and docile dogs we ever had.
