I have been having some very significant problems in dealing with certain types of stress. I feel very overwhelmed and I have an explosive temper causing me to say and do things I later regret and causing significant damage to my relationship. I also have an intense fear of abandonment, and my reactions to situations intensify when I feel that my safety and security are threatened. I need to lean how to deal with my emotions better. Lately things have gotten scary, even dangerous.
Unfortunately, right now I am not employed and I do not have insurance as I am a full time student.
I know I need some help, but I don't feel I can afford counseling. I am hoping to get some suggestions of options that I may have in helping me work through these issues and learn better coping skills.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well first off, its good you are aware of the issues in your life that are causing damage.

Many if not all colleges offer a counseling center that is free or on a sliding scale based on your income. Also, check the yellow pages for agencies in your area that offer services on a sliding scale. The agency I work for allows us to offer free services if the person is unable to pay and if they have income after they start services it will be adjusted.

Never avoid getting help based on concerns about income. If you are in a crisis situation that you may harm yourself or someone else call 911 or the nearest agencies that is similar to Crisis Services in your area. Good Luck. :)

If you are at a full time college, go to the counseling center and ask for help.... there are many free programs available for students. If you are going to a local community college check the "blue pages" of your phone book for hotline numbers.. there are many programs out there that a no-charge / low charge...but get professional help now!

I'm not sure where you can get free councel. But I feel you might need more then that right now. Some times we need to make a short call to 911 and they can help you more than you think. I've been there and think you both might need some help.... sorry if I'm too bold but.... well don't be so hard on yourself. ps don't drink for now. You need all your wits.

Your school should be able to point you in the right direction. Check school bulletin boards for support groups. If you are involved with a church seek out the advice of your pastor.

Consider going and seeing what the School Counseling Dept. has available to students.

Most campuses offer councelling for their students. If you have a health office maybe pay them a visit and they can direct you to someone that can help you. Good luck

you might consider an antidepressant. a regular doctor will prescribe one without all the counseling sessions. it helps with many of the symptoms you describe.
