Does the average person do his own photography or does he have it done? I guess that depends on whether he wants snapshots or professional photographs. Same with a website. You could probably do the artistic part better than most web developers, but hire someone to do the development (programming) part for you. Many developers will work with you (and may even end up hiring you to do their design work if you're good). The better the artist, the worse s/he will be in development, and vice-versa. Each takes opposite "brain wiring". (You don't hire Bill Gates when you need Ansel Adams.)
