Actually I think we think it's a cool thing but once time has passed we grow to regret it. For instance when i first got out of boot camp for the army i got a huge tattoo on my arm that was 9 years ago and boy do i regret it now.

Everyone in my family have always gotten tattoos. I've always seen them had by people I've loved, respected, and admired. I've also been raised around a few artists, and am one myself. Tattoos go way back. Tattoos and women aren't anything new either. In history women normally used to get tattooed and it often symbolized something. I've always noticed tattoos around and have 5 myself. If you'd see me walking down the street you wouldn't be able to tell I had any at all though. I've been saving my visible body parts for some majorly impresive and beautiful work. Perhaps there are just more women not scared of showing their ink nowadays.

Wow, you asked the question, and for once.... there are some great answers here!! Unless you have been locked up for a while, you should know that tats aren't a new trend, or fad, or whatever... They have been very popular here for some time and have been done for centuries. SO I'd say they don't qualify as "the flavor of the week". I personally find women with GOOD tats very sexy. For you to generalize everyone that you see with the word obnoxious, well I find it quite obnoxious. Go stereotype something you know about ok. Don't you think it says something about these girls that they have the balls to put something like that on their body?

Wow, you're pretty judgmental, aren't you? Did you ever stop to think the reason women may be getting big tattoos in obvious places is because they like the way it looks, and don't care what people like you think about them? It's a form of self expression, and it's also an art form.
I noticed you didn't say anything about men with "obnoxious ink"...interesting. Do I detect a hint of sexism?
Some people don't care about looking "cool".

I got my tattoos for me, not to be 'cool' cuz I am a geek! The only person I want to impress is my husband, and I could care less what you or anyone else thinks. Expand your mind and realize people who get tattoos for the right reason don't care what you think.

Just another form of self expression.

It seems like every generation becomes better at this. I was raised in the 50's/ 60's and hair length/style was the big issue for us.

I think it depends on the woman and why she is getting tattooed. I have two small flowers on my back, if I get more they will be about the same size and not noticeable because they are for my enjoyment.

please know that we are not getting tattooed to impress you nor are we doing it to be "cool" i haven't tried to be cool since i graduated from high school. i also don't get them to be trendy, or to fit in or to stand out.

i have the tattoos that i do for the love of the art and because i can. i think they are beautiful and if that's how i want to spend my money and decorate my body then it's really none of your business. if you're not a fan of tattoos then that's great, don't look!!!

Then don't look....I love having my piercings admired but I would never do that for anyone but myself anyway. I would never tell you to change you appearance anyway....you choose to look that way!
