It was unreal back in the fifties, and it's certainly unreal today. Harriet Nelson always had a dress and pearls on-my mom grew up in the fifties and she says that no women she knew dressed like that on a daily basis.

TV shows about family life rarely include much of anything about work. Think back to the Cosby Show too. In all those episodes, he was only ever called away to deliver a baby a handful of times, never worked nights, didn't get phone calls. That is not the life of an obstetrician.
Especially back in the 50s it seems that about the most a TV dad would do is walk in with a briefcase and say he had a rough day. The only one I remember actually working with any regularity was Ralph Kramden. I guess they didn't think work was very entertaining.

We are never told what Ozzie's job is.
His job was this: He was an actor on a weekly TV sitcom.
Actually the whole family got paid for being on TV.

But it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see, you can't please everyone, So you gotta please yourself!
