My female dog is about 9 years old, and recently she started bleeding like her usual "in heat" bleeding. But it doesn't stop, and its much more than ever, with clots and stuff. She won't eat and she's really weak. She'll hardly even leave the garage and certainly doesn't get all excited to see anyone...which says she's feeling terrible. What could be wrong with her? Is it something that should require a vet? Anyone experienced this? Please help, thank you!

she's actually my mom's dog and she'll be taking her to the vet, but if its too expensive, she'll have to be put to sleep. My mom can't go into debt for a dog....she's got enough problems.

I would say a dog that age should be spayed already. Anything unusual should be a sign that something may be wrong. Calling the vet would be the best for any situation. They can tell you if you need to go to the vet. Some of these answers have been a little harsh, but some of them have a point. Whenever something unusual is happening to your animal you need to call the vet and ask if you should come in. especially a dog that is older. You treat your pets like a child, if there was something wrong with your child you would bring them to the vet. don't worry about the money, someting can be worked out. if you are not willing to spend the money, take the time to call or go to the vet, and make sure she is ok then having a pet isn't the best thing. I sincerely hope your dog is ok:) please let me know how she is.

WEll I hate to hear that an animal may have to be put down, however it might be best the dog does not suffer. It is not an easy thing to do as I have had to do it twice and I cried like a baby. Listen to what the Vet has to say and go with his/her advise as to what is best for the dog.

hon i dont want to be rude but the dog sure put her 9 years in of being a faithful friend and companion to you and your mom so that is yours and her responsibility geeze! so does that mean she deserves to just lay there and be sick and maybe dieing? she maybe possibly could be hemmorageing she deserves to go to a vet.. mybe call around to see if someone could work w/ you on payments. this is the responsibility you take on as a pet owner.. would you want your mom let you be sick that bad and say oh well i cant go in debt for you i have enough to worry about

Take her to the vet. Is this really something you can't figure out on your own? I feel sorry for your dog. She gave you 9 years and you still don't know how to make sure she is taken care of???

How long is your mother going to let the dog out there and bleed?? Until she bleeds to death? The dog is probably having female organ problems, that is serious, since your family didn't want to spend the $$ to get her spayed. Now your family doesn't want to spend the $$ to get her help. Take her to the Humane Society and see what, if anything they can do for her. If I were your neighbor & seen the dog outside bleeding for days you can bet I'd have your family reported for animal cruelty / neglect. How can anyone at your home stand by & watch this poor dog & not get her help? My advice to your family..... NEVER get another dog!!!!

Take your dog to the vet ASAP! In matters like this, the only person that can tell you whats wrong is your vet. If you love your pet, take her!

It's a shame your dog is 9 years old and unspayed. She may have pyometra (uterine infection), ulcerated tumors, and probably already does, or will have mammary cancer. Get her to the vet and get the poor thing spayed =/
