I have been out in the sun daily and in the tanning bed a few times and now I have an awful heat rash on the tops of my shoulders and and on my chest. Any suggestions or home remedies that will help are appreciated.

I keep cornstarch in the freezer. You can appy this as you would powder. It's cold and will relieve the friction your clothes make on the rash. However, if you want it to heal very quickly, invest in Emu oil. You can get it at any healthfood store. It's awesome for burns, rashes, just about any skin condition. It's kind of pricey, but a little dab goes a long way. It even relieves the pain of a burn very quickly. If you only want home treatment, then take a vinegar bath (will soothe the burn), and use the corn starch on the rash. Hope you feel better soon!

I can't give a professional answer, only one from personal experience.

Obviously stay out of the sun and off the sun beds until it goes. Also don't scratch! Easier said than done I know.

Use talc to help keep it dry and cool. If you need to moisturize then use gels and not creams. (creams and oils block your pores and make it worse). I found witch hazel body washes, gels, wipes etc really good. Also when it comes to suntanning, P20 sun lotion stops the pores clogging and helps to prevent it's return.

But ultimately next time be careful with the suntanning. A little at a time. And not in the hottest part of the day. Keep the higher factors on. I find that the faster I try to tan, the more I am guaranteed to get heat rash.

Are you also sunburnt? It could be sun poisoning. Stay out of the sun/tanning beds for a week or so.
'Heat rash' usually shows up in hot spots on the body - like in neck folds, under breasts, chest, belly, etc. - not on tops of shoulders.
Are you using a new sun lotion? Or any other product that would touch your shoulders? [ detergent, softener, soap, lotion.] / allergy?
Have you tried on clothes someone else has worn, a friend or at a store? /scabies?
1] stay out of sun
2] bathe in tepid water with hypoallergenic soap. Rinse well.
No lotions or potions except...
3] use Benadryl or Caladryl lotion - some come in clear formula
4] try some Benadryl tablets for itching, especially at night
IF it doesn't start to clear up in two days, or gets worse
[ spreads, more itching, bigger welts ] go see your doctor.

My daughter has the same problem!! Another Mom suggested to me to use Baby Constarch, not powder, on her skin. Just sprinkle it all over and make sure you get every crease. It worked!!
