My thoughts are that the color is for high visibility...but that is just speculation. Why in the world would you want to stick out in a bright yellow suit?

I'm sure there is a reason, even if its just economic (yellow=cheaper??) and was just wondering what the heck it is.

Yessss...its for protection but why YELLOW?? The civy contractors are told they are issued yellow. They are not allowed to wear army issue anything (per KBR/LSI). She has a camo one that the army issued her (drilling reservist) but her civy one is going to be yellow.

Because the military issue, camouflage protective overgarments are not designed to handle the same type of threat as the bright yellow, impermeable suits.

And the Impermeable, commercial-type HAZMAT suits are not made in camouflage colors/patterns.

As well as a Warning to others to stay the heck away I that ii is also so that she is VERY easy to spot if she requires assistance in performing her work. I can think of FEW if any environments, outside of a Bio Level 4 area, in which you need to know EXACTLY where your partner is, and what they are doing. Think about it for a second. Potentially 1 little rip in that suit and you could die. Also if she was somehow incapacitated from a fall etc. she would be easy for the Next person to find and help.

It works on the same principle that Crane operators use. They guy guiding the crane often wears yellow or orange Gloves so that his hands are easy to see.

It's because when you are dealing with hazardous materials a bright yellow suit means danger and stay away. The Army has camoflage MOPP suits that serve a different purpose.

My guess would be that hazmat suits are color coded to indicate what chemicals that particular suit will protect against. I know that filters for respirators are color coded in this manner.
