he was at a hotel and could drink whatever was on offer - im only guessing and i thought of this coz you didnt actually say that he was stranded in the desert

He would have to rely on the liquids contained in Cactus for one thing. O guess he cold chew on the roots of trees and brush, there in moisture in those also. That would be the things that I would try if it were necessary
