You can try hot baths or a heating pad on the left side of your back to relax the muscle. Afterwards have your husband massage an analgesic cream into the area.

The best treatment for what you are experiencing is to see a doctor of chiropractic medicine. They will be able to diagnose the problem and also help you. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

You may have a spasm. It is possible to have one that just refuses to go away - and it will be painful. See your doctor - he/she might suggest some physical therapy or muscle relaxer.

It could be a pinched nerve. My mom had that.
