My 2 year old started being sick yesterday morning, ended up doing it about 6 or 7 times during the day, he couldn't keep any food or drink down.

So got the Doctor out who said it was a viral thing, sickness without diarroha, he hasn't got a temperature and he said we should give him 'gastric rest' (no food) so his stomach can settle and he would be OK.

Today he hasn't been sick (but then he has hardly eaten anything), but has slept all day, all he has eaten is a tiny piece of toast.

Obviously we are worried about him, if he is still like it tomorrow we are thinking of getting the Doctor back out.

Has anyone had any similar experiences or have any idea when he will start to feel better?

Forgot to say, he has been taking little sips of water all day and kept those down OK.

It's okay for him to miss eating for couple days until his stomach settles down. But you need to give him tons of liquids (this also helps to flush the virus out of his system). Let him have popcicles (non-dairy kind), chicken and beef broths, jello, etc which are all clear liquids. Then slowly start introducing food, like vegetable or chicken noodle soup, soda crackers, etc. You want very easy to digest foods. Then his appetite should return and he'll eat you out of house and home. It just takes three or four days for that tummy to return to normal. When he's able to eat solids, give him some yogurt too. It helps get the bacteria in his stomach correct again. Hope the little guy is up and playing really soon. Best of luck!

Well, first of all, I don't know where you're from, but in PA there's a real nasty stomach bug that's going around--some kids have been sick with it for 4 or 5 days. You may have to just wait it out.
Another thing to think about, is your child dehydrated? If he hasn't kept anything down and hasn't been getting any fluids in him but has been throwing up, that could be a problem. One of the signs of dehydration is lethargy; either call your dr. or take him to the ER, becasue dehydration can be serious if not treated.
