Do a little digging into his past and find out any kind of special game or toy or something that he had lost once as a child. Then do some searching to see if you can find that special item in a second hand store, garage sale or elsewhere and give to him as a gift to remind him of a happy memory during his childhood. That would be a good gift for a dad who's especially sentimental about stuff.

Is your dad easy to buy for? Mine sure isn't! He has everything and no matter how hard you try to get him something, it usually isn't right! I now have my girls make him cards, and a gift if they see something that they absolutely want to get him, that he does love! Being that he is difficult doesn't mean impossible. He has a corgi that is a baby to him. So a great gift would be to get a photo of the dog and have it put on a coffee mug, mouse pad ect. I did up coffee mugs with my girls pic on them at Christmas time and had Grampy put on his, that went over big!! It is still the basic gift but, it isn't the worlds greatest dad mug either! This one has meaning to him personally. If he has a checking account, why not get him some personalized checks, then each time he writes out a check there could be a pic of something or someone he loves!

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

This is a really beautiful poem too!

The things you taught me I will always know.
How could I not? The roots have sunk so deep:
All lessons of the heart that I will keep
No matter who I am or where I go.
Kids learn from what their parents are, and so
You are my book of life, the thoughts I reap;
From you I learned the rules of right and wrong
Against which I at times had to rebel,
Though with regret I carry with me still.
How lucky I am to have been loved so well,
Even as I pushed against your will,
Relying on a father fair and strong.

HEY give your day what HE wants.
My dad was a HUGE neck tie fan and had dozens because he wanted to wear a tie every day, even after he retired. Fathers day is when Dad GTE's what HE wants, NOT what you feel like giving him. Think of what he like. Does he like eating at a certain restaurant? How about a gift certificate there for him and Mom? Like going to the movies, ball game, music? How about tickets there, or a cd or dvd of his favorites? Hobby? Make a gift of that.
Best gift of all? Your time and attention. Spend time paying attention to him on that special day. If you can, try to spend the day with him and attend to his every like.
