Great question. And demand public display of the 10 commandments, but say that certain other commandments don't apply. Ha, or that homosexuality is an abomination but eating shrimp isn't.
Having cake and eating it too!

Christians always overlook Bible passages they find inconvenient, from the Old and New Testaments. How many Christians live a life of poverty like Jesus promoted? He told people, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven". That particular Bible quote isn't too popular with a lot of modern Christians. Also, if the Old Testament really does matter, why do Christians work on the Sabbath or talk to a woman who's on her period? Oh wait, those are also inconvenient. Even the gay bashing Christians would probably change their tune, though, if a member of their own family came out of the closet.

Some (not all) Christians apply the same kind of selective interpretation to the NT as well.
E.g., it is common to cite Romans 1:27 as a condemnation of homosexuality, but then don't go on for two more sentences to 1:29-32 ... where Paul (not Jesus) goes on to condemn other behavior with the death penalty "They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; ... Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."
So accoring to Paul "gossips, slanderers" and those who "disobey their parents" all "deserve death."
So does a Christian take this *literally*? Or do they recognize this as a "slightly" over-zealous sermon written by Paul addressed to the Romans (i.e. we have to keep the speaker, the time, and the intended audience in mind)? Some Christians can't make up their mind, so they instead SELECT the behavior for condemnation that most offends their own personal prejudices.

I have never said that the OT doesn't matter, in fact there is prophecies in there that is yet to be fulfilled, As far as Homosexuals & Lesbians They are also mentioned in the NT as sin as it was in the OT. So it looks like you are trying to get around a situation by blaming Christians, well here is one Christian that reads both the OT & NT.

Downright tragic.
Actually, a literalist in the OT would know homosexuality (when not cheating or with a prostitute) isn't a sin- it's a cleanliness code violation, like eating shrimp or growing marigolds to keep the nematodes out of your garden.
Edit: Hey, Kickenup- tell that to my son's three stitches when some boys threw rocks over the fence at him screaming about him having two moms. If you don't know what you're talking about STFU!

kickinupfunf, if you think that load of crap, you haven't been paying attention or you've been stuck in your little box so deep and long, you can't even see the top anymore to try to climb out. They most definately ARE oppressed. You don't need the threat of violence to be oppressed. You only need to be treated like crap like you people are doing to the homosexuals.
Now, to answer the actual question, Christians are well known for only listening to the parts of the bible that they feel like listening to when it suits them to do so, and even then, they're likely to twist the meaning to whatever they want.

I've never met any real Christians who say that the Old Testament does not matter.
Of course it matters.
By the way the Old and New Testaments teach that homosexuality is wrong.

a very confused Christian would say the OT
doesnt matter
"Love you neighbor as yourself" is a direct quote of Moses... Children obey your parents this is the first commandment with a promise is a reference to the Old Testament as well and ocmming from Ephesians
of course it does matter and Jesus said "foolish men and slow of heart not to believe all the prophets have spoken" after being raised form the dead

Not all Christians say the Old Testament doesn't matter. And not all Christians oppress homosexuals. That's like saying atheists are all homosexuals who oppress Christians and the Bible. Not really very accurate, huh?

The laws that abide by the OT don't apply to us.
In Jerimiah God told us that He was sending us a new covenant and not the ones that he had given our fathers when they were in the desert. to be balaams donkey you sure know little about the Bible
Homosexuals~ Romans 1:27 and 1 Cor. 6:9
Once again you know little about the Bible.
And for the 10 Commandments ( 9 were repeated in the NT by Jesus, the one that wasn't was the Sabbath Day you can't work on it= now we can).... Sheesh
