most of my videos are in AVI form, and i want it to be in MPEG form, is there a software that i can download for free to do that? or is there a site that does it for you for free..

There are plenty of trial converters (usually time limited trials - 30 days, etc). Go here and have a look through them

there are some that offer free software but they come bundled with adware or spyware which may compromise your computer security.

It would be worth visiting the TMPG site this used to be freeware and isn't bundled with any nasties:

if you go to the main site http://www.tmpgenc.net and look for their freeware section under downloads. this is good software.

Lots and lots of MPEG encoders. In fact, they got some that go from AVI to DVD directly (well, there are intermediate steps involved...)
