The simple answer is burn more calories then you consume. I would just try to eat a healthy well balanced diet in moderate portions.

The biggest key to weight loss is an active life style, take walks, ride your bike stuff like that, even cleaning the house burns calories.

If you have time and can afford try going a gym, the trainers are a usefull wieght loss resource.

Stay away from diet pills they can be habbit forming and only show short term results. If you do goin a gym be aware that the shakes they sell are loaded with calories most of the one at my gym are about 300 calories.

Most importantly take it one day at a time, your gong to have days you can't work out or eat bad, but don't give up and take your time fitness is not built over night.

North Americans are generally obese because we eat more than our bodies require. In fact, we eat a lot more and have therefore "trained" our stomachs to want more before it's full. In addition to eating healthier (less sugary snacks and less fast food) and in addition to exercising more, a safe non-diet way to lose weight is to re-condition your stomach to normal proportions.

Before you start your meal, drink one glass of water. This will physiologically tell your stomach that it's time to work before there's even food in there and it will also take up some of the room in your stomach making it stretch a bit.

While you are eating, drink another one or two glasses of water...not all at once, but sipping occasionally. This not only aids in the digestion, but continues to stretch your stomach. As you stomach is stretched, it will tell the brain that it's full.

Stop eating when you're full. In a week or so, even without doing this, you will notice that you are getting full faster on smaller portions because you have physiologically shrunk your stomach. You stomach is now the size it should be and you will consume the calories that you need for the day and also burn it off without doing much more than your daily routine. To burn off any spare tires, you need now to do aerobic exercise....it will take discipline and time, but as you do this, you will have more energy throughout the day and the tire will soon be gone.

Most of the time a diet really just depends on individual persons bodies, so tips is hard. I do know that 3 of my friends do the south beach diet, and it worked wonders for them. One is a mother of 3 who was WAY out of shape ect..., now she in shape with muscle tone and lost all the fat, so I would definately recommend it, and the food is good to, I have tried alot of it

Eat 5-6 small healthy meals and snacks instead of 3 big meals. For breakfast, eat a good serving of oatmeal and a little yogurt. Buy the tub and not the small packets with a bunch of sugar added to it. For lunch, eat a sandwinch on 100 percent whole grain with plenty of veggies. Good snack ideas include: yogurt, walnuts, almonds (unsalted and not roasted), and veggies. Stay away from processed wheat that includes white bread, white rice, and white pasta. Stay away from sugary snacks and drinks. You need to walk at least for 30 minutes every day. Don't forget to take your vitamins daily.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

don't eat until you are full... about 70 to 80%, and be sure to have a daily dosage of fruit and vegetables. eat meats in small portions, and stay away from meat at least once to twice a week... and if you can make it 100% organic or close to it... you are on your way...
