when my daughter was 4 I would give a couple chores just so she felt like she was helping mommy with housework. I would give her a broom and she would sweep the front porch. Another one was too empty all the little trashcans into the big one. wipe the table's/sort the clothes dark/light ( very good for learning colors) I just pretty much gave her litthle things todo. Nothing major because i'm not big on chores. Hope this helps

My son loves to rinse the dishes as I wash them. I bought him a step stool from Bed Bath and Beyond and he stands next to me when I wash the dishes. I wash all the big stuff first and then he helps me with the little stuff. Silverware, bowls, etc.
He also feeds the pets and picks up his toys. He gets an allowance of $1.00 a week for doing these things.
I liked the folding towels idea that sounds like something he'd like to do.
When they want to help it's awesome, that is only going to last so long before you have to BEG them to do stuff.
They learned about being helpful at school and all of a sudden he wanted to follow me around while I was doing my chores. (o;

~ Helping you empty the dishwasher
~ Bringing the garbage bag from his garbage can in his room
~ Putting his toys away
~ Throwing his clothes in the laundry machine while you hand him the soap to pour in and he can press the button to start it
~ Getting the mail, as long as it is not too close to the road
~ Helping out younger siblings do certain things
BTW - children should always have chores, no matter what the age, I know you are not asking if you should turn your child into a slave so ignore those people who try to tell you he doesn't need chores and should enjoy his childhood. Chidlren actaully enjoy responsibilty and structure - it gives them the confidence that allows them to accomplish things in life.

carrying the laundry to the laundry room, picking up the toys, picking up the dogs toys. . . kinda hard to make a "chore" list for a 4 year old. my nephew is 3 when he is done with lunch he takes his cup and plate to the kitchen, when he was 2 he was throwing his diapers away

My son just turned 5 this month and I have him do small chores around the house. He picks up his room, picks up his toys in the play room, sometimes he trys to hang up his clothes. When I am done doing laundry I have him put certain clothing away. When we go to the groccery store I have him unload the eaasy to carry stuff...cereal, bread, cookies etc. He also sometimes sets the table, puts out the place mats, utencils, napkins, cups. Sometimes my husband takes my son outside with him and has him help him on small things..working on the quads, cars (hes not really working on them more like he's handing dad the tools, My son just feels like he is helping). When my husband takes out the trash he asks my son to help him. My husband pretends its heavy and asks my son for help. My sons not really carrying but it teaches him later on he might have to do this by himself.

my little girl is 4 and she makes her bed - I do it properley later, she puts away her toys when she has finished with them and she helps to fold the laundry, towels and pj's mostly.
Her favorite job is to help with the dishes - she washes her's and her brothers ' plastic ' plates and stuff. I think it has more to do with playing with water though....
She has a reward chart so when she is good she gets a sticker on it, this helps on the days she doesn't want to pick up her toys ect....

this last year i gave my daughters chores. start small like help match socks (it helps them learn colors). pick up own toys is a good one. whatever you start with start small. make a chart of what is done and attach a prize with it : 10 cents , or stickers. it helps them visualize their accomplishments.
