The beautiful young seventeen year old woman that was brutally murdered this week has not gone by the way in my heart. I know she is not alone. I also know there are men in my country that would not hesitate to do the same thing if they thought they could get away with it. I am familier with womens shelters and have experienced violence and violation first hand.
Obviously not all men are of purverse and unevolved staight, but I am more concerned about those that are and what can be done about this from a spiritual point of view. I think men themselves have a responsibility to turn this around.
Women are not chatel. We own our own bodies, we are not slaves. I do not respect these men and it takes a lot for me to acknowledge within myself that they are humanbeings. An admission I am not proud of.
Gaia weeps.
Peace.

Note: religious and cultural beliefs and practices. The combination is often deadly and extremly cruel to women and young girls.
I recognize that culture plays a big role here but religion is still drawn inot the picture. Can spirituality pull us out of it?
I want to believe it can but so far we still struggle for fundmental human rights for women even in First World countries.

Yes Sunman it is about everyone! Yes I am against all these injustices when it come to it. However the issue here is that tradition and law often condone this behavior by men to women and sometimes their children as well where the reverse is not the case.
There are not many societies where the woman is the traditional head of the house, or the husband must do the wifes bidding, or the male does not have the vote only the woman can vote, the female has most of the economic power power, the law has not and in many, many places in the world today, does not give women equal treatment to men.
Many arguments that once were put forth as retorical slaps at womens rights like do you want to get drafted to go to war? Are loosing ground as women in some countries like Israel are drafted at eighteen just like their male counterparts and yes they manage. I met one of those amazing women and she seemed alright to me!
So yes Sunman I do emphasise this because it is strill an issue.

You may not have noticeed but I soeak out on other things aswell including racism and bigotries of other sorts on Yahoo. I also speak often on the abuse of Gaia, Mother Earth...the planet and our brothers and sisters of this amazing creation.
I am not a perfect person...but I try very hard to grow...I challenge you to look again at your first impression of this article that was inspired to honour this young woman who died this week. No doubt many people and creatures of the earth were abused this week and died with out the global recognition but she did while the police stoud by and watched. Sound familier.

Many men who are not evolved emotionally use the scripture women submit to your husbands, they leave out the first part of husbands love your wives as Christ loves the church and layed his life down for it.My husband is one of these types,he thinks I am to just submit to his authority. Many men he associates with feel the same, its a generous portion of perverting the truth of Gods wonderful words of wisdom to men.Unfortunately my husbands stand has alienated me from wanting to be close. His emotional abuse will soon be ended.God has called me to love and if that means loving myself,my God will make a way of escape. If my husbands heart does not soften to adhere to Gods heart for me I must go.

If men are less evolved than women it can only be because men arrived on the evolutionary stage later. So by asking your question you tell us that you believe that for many tens of thousands of years there was a human race which was all women - that men were a later evolutionary quirk. I think you need to ask mummy and daddy to explain to you what is wrong with this very clever idea.

Friend, I am not aware much of the news the last few dys, But in the beginning, God made Adam & Eve equal, it is when Eve had that sexual relationship with the serpent that God put men over women, But man or not, Husband or not, Boyfriend or not, a man should never put down their women & treat them as trash. I have a very loving wife, She is a good Christian wife, & a wife should NOT be commanded all the time to do thi or do that, that lazy couch potatoe husband of hers, should help out. But they ome up with the excuse, I worked all week, SO what, I woked all my life since i was 9 in fields hand picking corn fo my uncle for $2.00 a wek & started factory work when I was 16, & when to my last employers in 1968 & just retired after 38 yrs, at GE, Husbands listern UP, Get off you rear & help you little wife out, I don't care haow much you have worked, I used to many times work 16 hours shift come home & sleep one hour &mgo back to work, but the wekend is all I had, & I used it to help my wife. HUSBANDS, wake up, It won't kilkl you to help your wife, I help my wife with washing clothes, fixing supper, Washing dishes, Cleaning the house & I am 57 yrs old & disable. Wake up men, your wife is a Human too. You may call me a cry baby or a little sissy, that is ok, But who has the best marriage. Not you, I do.

As a Christian and a man, I am appalled at the way women have been horribly treated throughout history. Women are a precious part of our world, created to be a beloved fellow companion. Biblically speaking, women were given to be a helper to men; and that, to my way of thinking, is a great and high honor, because in order to be a qualified helper to Man the Woman must be at least as great as Man with the capacity to privide true help, strength and fortitude. I am a gay man, but I will ever be grateful to God for blessing our lives with women. Women ought to be treasured, not abused. There is nothing more stunning and beautiful than a woman who has been raised with dignity, confidence, and respect.

Yes, I agree with you on too many points to go into right now, and they are serious issues that must be dealt with on personal and public levels, but, women and men TOGEHER are co-creating their relationships and their worlds and their religions. This applies to ancient times as much as it applies today. There are many men who are victimized and beaten and abused, verbally, emotionally, spiritually, etc, by women. You can apply the same dynamic to many relationships that have nothing to do with gender; gay/straight, young/old, black/white, etc, and you can view the relationship from either points of view. But, we are individuals first, and gender is only a small part of who we are,(unless you overidentify, in which case you will see yourself as primarily woman/man.)
Violence and abuse, etc., is never justified, and that being said, I'm telling you to wake up. I'm sure you have no problem seeing dominating, violent, condescending, abusive women as being human. Why is that? Why don't you become a champion for the cause of battered men? Do you see some of the condescending tones implied by your many statements about men? When it boils down to it, none of us are victims in the truest sense, yet we must still seek justice and right the imbalances in our relationships. We are individuals in relationship to each other and all life. We are individuals first and that's who needs to be addressed, because that's where the action is. I really don't give a damn about my gender when it boils down to it, (we are so much more) but I wear men's clothes and I have a man's name.(go figure) At some levels I am both man and woman, and other levels I am beyond gender. Will you meet me there?
-----Jamie, you rock. You're a true warrior of peace and you're not afraid to take a stand on what's important to you. You're a mover and a shaker making waves. Thanks for your insights.
