You can start taking your dog on short walks after 8 weeks of age. This will actually prepare the dog for later training and make walking much easier when it is older. Keep it short in distance and a little slower in pace. Just keep an eye on what the dog is doing as far as getting tired or walking too fast. I wouldn't do long walks or runs until the dog is at least 6-8 months old or you could damage the bones and joints by overuse. After the walk try to rub down the legs and hips and play with the dogs feet which will help you notice and changes/problems and get them used to you handling the feet -that will make nail trims a lot easier

As soon as it can walk and has all it's shots-start taking him to a safe spot and let him explore a few feet here and there while on the leash or in a small pen. (like a modified play pen) As it gets older, go farther and do more, keep him safe and always be training him to behave properly. Good Luck!

After 3 months of age when they have had their puppy shots and their first rabie shot then you may take them out for regular walks, parks and such.
Anything before 3 months you should keep your pup in it's own yard.

I don't know how old your dog is???
I recently brought home a 6 1/2 week old Lab puppy. We started trying to walk with her on a leash about 8-9 weeks old. She didn't do well on the leash at all but we tried. I have read where you don't want to walk a puppy on a hard surface. It will hurt the growth of the puppies legs. We walk our lab on the grass as much as possible
.
Trying to get her used to the leash was the hard thing. She is now 4 months old and she still is having problems. She wants to hold the leash in her mouth so here we go walking with part of the leash in her mouth but she likes it that way.
She will stop at anything and everything. She will put what ever in her mouth she can find !!! She loves to just lay down it doesn't matter where she might be but just lays down!! It might take me 5 minutes to get her back up. Then off we go for a little while longer. Every thing distracts her.She loves when she sees kids. She will pull so hard on the leash that I think she will choke herself to death. We have tried a harness but we don't seem to have as good as control with it. So we went back to the collar. They don't make a very wide collar for a puppy. We did buy a 1 inch collar but it is still to big on her.
The wider the better control you will have.
But for now we walk for awhile then we will stop for awhile. I don't really care though. Because I do know one day she will come around and do me proud.
Good Luck!!
P.S. Just have lots of patiences each puppy is different. Try walking around the house with the collar and leash on your puppy. Then try very short walks!! I have even read where a puppy needs to be at least 6- 9 months before they should even be taught to walk on a leash???? I do have problems with that though??
Don't get upset and yell at your puppy this will only cause your puppy to become confused and scared then your puppy will not even want to go outside for a walk. They can feel what you are feeling without saying a word. So keep on trying your puppy does want to make you happy!! Dogs want to make their owner happy and to be made to mind. They want a purpose in life, not to just lay around with no one to play with or walk with!!! As I said they want to please!!!!!
Good Luck

Any age is appropriate to take a dog for a walk. If he can't walk the whole way, then carry him. It's good for the social life of the dog.

Once she's cleared on her shots and the vet gives the ok to take her outdoors. You should also start potty training her that time.
