Because, the farm on the other side of the road was much nicer than the one it was living at. Upon arriving at this nicer farm, the chicken realized that it really wasn't a farm at all, but a modern, poultry resort. Heated pools, massage therapy, natural hot springs...the works. The chicken hurriedly crossed back over the road to inform the other chickens of this magical discovery. After some encouraging dialogue, the entire coop packed up and crossed the road to visit this wonderful resort. They all thought they had died and gone to heaven. Soon, a foot bridge was built over the road between the farm and the resort to allow safe passage, thus forever changing answers to the ancient question...Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?

Actually "chicken" is now considered a very derogatory and demeaning term as it has taken on an unjustified connotation of cowardice. They now prefer to be called "domesticated avians".
As to why one crossed they road, she was probably driven from her coop in the middle of the night by the oppressive human captors that beheaded her parents and have stolen countless numbers of her unhatched young for some unknown purpose...

I don't think that joke is really a joke hahaha...i think along time ago it was actually a conversation in a farm or something....then some guy when to town and starded to act funny and people starded to think and enjoyed themselves guessing in the crowd lol thus became world wide hahaha! ^___^
