The immigrants affected by this bill are illegal, so they aren't in any position to evaluate US legislation and "turn it down." And "going about their business" means continuing to break the law. ICE should be going about it's business picking them up and hauling them either back across the Rio Grande, or straight to the gallows.
This Senate bill sucks for Americans, which is no surprise since Ted Kennedy was its leading author. It's way too lenient on lawbreaking illegal aliens. And these new laws promising to secure the border, why should anyone believe they'll actually do any of that? There are ALREADY laws in place for more border fence and border patrol agents than this bill calls for!

A good portion of Mexico needs to move home, and start opening up their own businesses, building their own roads, schools, and hospitals, and taking direct issue with the crime that has dragged their country down. The reason that hasn't happened yet is because america's always been the 'easy out' where those problems weren't so manifest, but now that some 1/2 million or more people jump the fence annually, the current trend is 'flee the scene' rather than deal with the problem. And, in one way, you can't blame em too much, it's not really their fault that their country's a non-self-supporting nest of poverty and hopelessness, that's just kind of how things have evolved over the last several decades, what with the catholic churchs' patented 'breed til you drop' program, it sure does suck to be Mexico, these days....at least, that's what we're led to believe on the evening news, but unfortunately as regards this entire ugliness, you can't really trust the news, matter of fact when you start talking about the tens, if not hundreds of billions involved here, you can't trust anybody anymore. Mexico's a joke, our border policy is an even bigger joke, and the best answer here is to nail the border shut, and end all immigration for a couple years until everything settles down. It's really the only way to re-establish the border as it should be, a legal and trade boundary that needs to be respected by both countries.
Yes, I know, there's other countries that are trying to slide their citizens under the fence into the United States, but the story is really and honestly about Mexico. Fix the US/Mexico border, and problem largely solved...Bush signed the legislation for this, but the southern states are fighting it, mainly because they already have so many people from Mexico that these foreign interests are fighting tooth and nail to keep their avenue of access to our country wide-open, legitimate or otherwise. Yet, there is hope: they've promised to improve the Border Patrol, one small tentative step in the right direction, but a step nonetheless....

They have the option ..The ball is really in their court and I don't think they will go without a fight on this one.. Few are OK with it but it's the groups that want more entitlement that are large that will fight to the finish...
They want a one party system of Democrats which will throw this country into a tailspin...Not to mention the taxation of hard working citizens will continue..... Is this fair? Where's the balance because there is no peace where there is no balance!

Since it isn't up to the law-breaking illegals if the law is passed or not, that question is irrelevant. And when did this become a negotiation between our government and people who don't belong in this country? One more thing: what part of the free ride they would get is tough on them?

answering questions like this is what political debate is useful for.
One camp in America thinks that immigration should be free and open to everyone who can get there. The polar extreme is that immigration should be closed as of 1996 [the last time a deal was offered].
I've yet to see a useful discussion of either extreame. Perhaps you'll contribute??

Once again it's proven that the US, unlike Canada, only wants to bring the scum of Mexican society
No wonder why they have so many illegals, at the end of the day that's what is rewarded, to break the law
Unlikely highly skilled people who want to work in the US, they get all sort of obstacles!!

Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !

I agree, turn it down. Show America that it OWES illegals what they want. It OWES them.
It OWES them to let them skip the serious contagious disease check.
It OWES them to let them skip the felony records check.
It OWES them to let them skip any check for job skills of even the most simplistic sort.
It OWES them to let them come in ahead of those who wait, and work, and strive to be American.
It OWES them to let them while they are loyal to Central American, South American, Asian, African, etc.,, first, the United States, second.
Let's show the world how they think. Good idea.
There are many people who are my brothers and sisters, here in the United States, who are of many ancestries, from all the above continents.
They are here, legally.
I am proudly a legalist. Biased against those who do illegal things.

They may be illegal, but they do the jobs many americans will not do. Without them, most of our resturants, stores, etc will cease to run. We focus on illegal aliens here. But what about the amount of illegal aliens over in Europe that are from the United States.
